Chapter 19 – Learning

Xi Chunzhi brushed off her earlier melancholy and raised her chin arrogantly. “I need to maintain my figure, so I won’t eat that greasy stuff.”

“Uh…”

Tu Ran glanced at her curvaceous figure.

“Alright then.”

When the fried chicken arrived, Tu Ran brought it back to her room.

Although she hadn’t eaten anything since waking up from the Threshold until now, surprisingly, she didn’t feel hungry.

She guessed it might be due to soaking in the nutrient solution.

She directly stuffed the fried chicken into the refrigerator and began to carefully examine the house.

It was a one-bedroom, one-living room, one-kitchen, and one-bathroom apartment. It wasn’t spacious, but it wasn’t cramped either; it was more than enough for her to live alone.

There wasn’t much furniture, only the essentials, and there were no extra decorations.

Maybe because there were so few things, the whole house looked particularly tidy.

Until she opened the bedroom door, Tu Ran immediately overturned her previous thoughts.

The large desk was piled high with books, layer upon layer, in a chaotic mess. Some books even overflowed the desk and were casually thrown on the floor.

The bookshelf was also crammed full of books, with some sticking out because they couldn’t fit, making Tu Ran, who had a bit of OCD, want to shove them all back in immediately.

But now wasn’t the time to organize the bookshelf.

As she looked closer, she saw that these books were all highly technical professional books.

Half of them were criminal investigation books, another part was about alien species, and some were wilderness survival guides.

The categories were so abundant, it was as if they were specially prepared for a novice like her.

Without hesitation, Tu Ran pulled out a weapon usage guide and started reading from the beginning.

This world had no firearm regulations; everyone had the right to carry weapons.

She would start her daily patrol duties tomorrow, and there was a chance she might encounter some armed criminals. Learning some basic knowledge beforehand certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Maybe it was the nutrient solution nourishing her body, Tu Ran studied until dawn without feeling sleepy, instead feeling mentally alert and having a particularly good memory.

However, Tu Ran didn’t let herself study all night; she was worried that this body couldn’t handle it. She stretched comfortably, checked the time, and saw that there were still three hours left until her appointment with Xi Chunzhi.

Setting an alarm, Tu Ran quickly lay down on the bed, forcing herself to fall asleep quickly.

The alarm rang, and Tu Ran opened her eyes.

The thick curtains blocked the morning light completely, leaving only a few rays leaking through the seams.

The room was dim, and with those few rays of light, Tu Ran noticed the bead she had casually placed on the table corner last night.

The bead of the chicken spirit monster.

The light fell perfectly on it, combined with its own glow, almost matching the brightness of a small lamp.

Tu Ran rubbed her eyes. Suddenly, she felt this bead looked familiar.

Like the inner core in the bodies of immortals or monsters in fantasy dramas.

Gathering their lifelong skills.

Eating their inner cores could grant corresponding powers.

Could this thing be the inner core of the chicken spirit monster?

Shining like this, after studying medicine for so many years, she had never seen a glowing bead.

The alarm kept vibrating.

Tu Ran’s thoughts instantly returned from the magical world to reality.

She patted her cheeks, quickly waking up.

She had to believe in science.

How could such a mythical thing as inner cores exist in this world of technological advancement?

Time was running late. Tu Ran adjusted her mood, got out of bed, quickly freshened up, and opened the door with determination.

Coincidentally, Xi Chunzhi was about to knock.

They locked eyes, and Xi Chunzhi lowered her hand.

“Let’s go.”

Entering the elevator and pressing the button for the first floor, Xi Chunzhi suddenly spoke, “How did you sleep last night?”
