Chapter 17 – Reward
“Tomorrow morning, we will go back to work at the Pioneering Team Center in the Administration Building. You should get a good night’s sleep.”
Tu Ran was restless. How could she possibly sleep now? She would definitely meet her colleagues tomorrow. What if someone noticed her abnormalities again?
“You don’t need to worry,” Xi Chunzhi noticed her anxiety and comforted her, “You are introverted and not very talkative. Except for me, you don’t have any friends at the center. They won’t bother you.”
“As for forgetting how to use firearms and combat with opponents, I think you don’t need to worry about that either. Although you have amnesia, your muscle memory remains. The way you restrained me in the elevator, your reaction speed and strength are not something that can be easily achieved. With a bit of training, it shouldn’t take long for you to regain your previous abilities.”
Tu Ran could indeed feel that the original owner’s physical fitness was excellent. When faced with danger, the muscle memory of the original owner could always react faster than her mind.
Perhaps, this body was a huge treasure, quietly waiting for her to uncover it.
This was one of the few good pieces of news she had. Tu Ran felt hopeful.
After bidding farewell to Xi Chunzhi, she walked to her front door.
It was a password lock.
Presumably, in this world, only old neighborhoods would still use password locks.
Tu Ran tried to empty her mind, not thinking about what the password might be, just simply following the muscle memory of her fingers and habitually pressing the buttons.
The green light flashed, and the door opened.
Tu Ran didn’t have time to be pleasantly surprised.
Xi Chunzhi popped her head over her shoulder and gave a thumbs-up.
Tu Ran was startled again.
She was more or less a nervous wreck now.
“I was afraid you would forget the password, so I came to check. I didn’t expect you to still remember.” Xi Chunzhi praised her approvingly.
Tu Ran smiled. At this moment, the elevator door in the hallway opened, and a woman in a black uniform walked towards them, carrying a bag.
“Pioneer Tu Ran, this is a work communicator newly assigned to you by the center. Due to your outstanding achievements in the Threshold, this communicator is given to you for free, and 1000 points have been added to your work card.”
Tu Ran had never heard of these professional terms, but that didn’t stop her from making associative guesses.
Xi Chunzhi had mentioned earlier that part of a pioneer’s duty was to enter the Threshold, gather all kinds of information, and hand it over to the Federal Government.
After she came out of the Threshold, she hadn’t interacted with any government staff nor handed over anything to them.
Except for one thing: a holographic recording ring.
Judging from the name, it was likely that the ring recorded everything the original owner saw and did in the Threshold. This data was then sent to the relevant agencies for analysis, and the contribution value was determined based on the video’s content.
The contribution value of the original owner’s trip must have been significant. This not only earned her a free work communicator but also added 1000 points to her work card.
Taking the bag from the other person, Tu Ran expressed her gratitude. After the person responded politely, they left.
Curious about what the communicator looked like, Tu Ran opened the bag and found it identical to the one on Xi Chunzhi’s wrist.
It looked like a watch, but its design was more streamlined and natural.
Xi Chunzhi was surprised. “What did you record to earn so many points?”
Tu Ran shrugged, “I can’t remember either.”
