Chapter 168 – Extraordinary Abilities
“A misunderstanding? What misunderstanding? Didn’t you say you saw me go to the black market? Dare to threaten me?” Tu Ran kicked him in the stomach, sending him crashing to the ground.
He tumbled around awkwardly on the ground, scrambling to get up and kneeling. “I didn’t see anything. I really didn’t see anything. I was just talking nonsense before. Please don’t take it seriously!”
“Ha, it’s too late!” Tu Ran’s voice was cold.
Wang Hui hadn’t expected that the dim lighting, which he had considered a place to commit his misdeeds, would become the place where this woman would end his life.
Tu Ran swiftly drove two knives into his eyes. “Don’t look at things you shouldn’t!”
Wang Hui’s eyeballs instantly burst, blood spraying from his eye sockets. He rolled on the ground in agony, covering his eyes and screaming in the darkness.
“Before you die, let me tell you! I am a pioneer! You’re putting on airs in front of me? Piece of shit!”
“Spare me, spare me, I really didn’t know you were a pioneer…” Wang Hui, like a dying stray dog, desperately kowtowed at Tu Ran’s feet. “Killing me won’t benefit you. Blinding me should be enough to vent your anger.”
Tu Ran kicked him away again and quickly ran over, stabbing him fiercely in the heart.
The cries abruptly ceased.
What’s the point of blinding someone? In this world, any organ can be replaced with mechanical parts, and mechanical eyes are often better than the originals.
A person is only truly dead when there’s no breath left.
Tu Ran pulled out the dagger.
Thick blood slid down the blade, dripping onto the ground.
It was now nearly midnight, and this was an old neighborhood, with almost no one passing by.
The surroundings were silent, quiet enough that she could faintly hear the sound of blood flowing.
She sheathed the dagger and turned to leave.
The body would be discovered by the residents of the neighborhood the next morning. After calling the police, the Executive Department’s security would come to investigate. However, without surveillance footage, the security would have no way of confirming the perpetrator.
If they reviewed footage from other areas, they would see that she had walked alongside the disgusting man all the way here, and since she lived in this neighborhood, she would become the prime suspect.
However, in the Federation, many people are found dead on the streets every day, and the Executive Department’s security force is limited. They deal with numerous cases daily.
As a result, they often decide whether to invest resources in finding the perpetrator based on the victim’s identity.
Tu Ran didn’t believe that someone like Wang Hui, from the bottom of society, would warrant the security’s effort to review surveillance footage.
Even if they did review the footage and saw that Wang Hui had followed her here, so what? Her identity was a pioneer of the Federation’s Pioneer Team.
Without concrete evidence, they couldn’t move against her. They couldn’t even summon her to the Executive Department for questioning, and any statements would have to be taken at a time when she wasn’t otherwise occupied.
The security of the Executive Department, if not foolish, wouldn’t create trouble for themselves.
Back home, Tu Ran first washed the blood from the dagger and then removed her bloodstained clothes.
She wasn’t about to discard clothes that cost three thousand Federation credits.
But even after washing them, she felt uneasy wearing clothes that had been stained with blood.
After hesitating for three seconds, Tu Ran placed her hand on the clothes and activated the [Wheel of Time].
She rewound time by half an hour.
With a flash of white light, the bloodstains on the clothes rapidly faded away.
In an instant, the clothes were as good as new.
Tu Ran picked up her clean and tidy clothes and noticed there was no trace of blood smell.
She had only rewound the [Wheel of Time] by half an hour, and there was no discomfort on her body.
Satisfied, she put away the clothes, grabbed her pajamas, and went into the bathroom for a shower.
Soaking in the bathtub, Tu Ran sighed in comfort.
After half an hour, she changed into her pajamas and returned to bed, falling asleep quickly.
She had work the next day and couldn’t afford to stay up late.
…
The next morning at seven, Tu Ran got up on time, had a simple breakfast, and changed into her clothes before heading downstairs.
A crowd had gathered downstairs, including the Executive Department staff in their uniforms.
Wang Hui’s body had been discovered.
Through the gaps in the crowd, Tu Ran saw a large patch of blood on the ground that had already turned black.
She cast a brief glance, then walked past without looking back.
She needed to catch the early train.
She paid close attention to the conversation among the security officers behind her.
“This neighborhood has no surveillance.”
“His name is Wang Hui. He often harassed women on the train and has a long history of offenses. His parents have been unreachable, and he doesn’t seem to have any friends. The body might not even be claimed.”
“This neighborhood is a settlement area for Federation pioneers, housing many pioneers.”
“The surrounding surveillance might have clues. We…”
“Just write the death report and notify the relevant department to take the body away. We need to move on to the next location.”
“Alright.”
Tu Ran left the neighborhood gate, hearing this final sentence.
She smiled slightly; her expectations had proven correct.
…
Arriving at the Administrative Building, it was exactly 7:50.
Many pioneers were coming and going, and Tu Ran recognized a few of them.
“Pioneer Tu Ran, the Pioneer Team Commander has issued a command requiring all pioneers to report to Meeting Room 721.”
“Understood.”
Tu Ran acknowledged the order and headed toward the elevator.
Other pioneers who received the same task joined her in the elevator, and they all went to the seventh floor together.
Upon entering the meeting room, Tu Ran immediately noticed Zhao Yan. He was seated five chairs away from Xie Zhao.
Within ten meters.
Tu Ran’s eyelid twitched.
Didn’t Xie Xu mention to Xie Zhao that Zhao Yan had telepathic abilities?
She quietly took a seat at the back of the meeting room.
Zhao Yan noticed her too, giving her a casual glance before turning his attention elsewhere.
Within ten minutes, many pioneers continued to arrive.
Tu Ran spotted Ding Naiqing, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time.
He still had the same innocent, harmless appearance of a male college student.
Ding Naiqing didn’t notice Tu Ran sitting at the back of the meeting room. He went directly to Zhao Yan, pulling out a chair beside him and sitting down with familiarity.
The two began conversing, their voices lost in the noise of the crowded room.
Watching Ding Naiqing’s enthusiastic discussion, Tu Ran furrowed her brow.
Did Ding Naiqing and Zhao Yan have a close relationship?
At exactly 8:00, the meeting commenced.
Xie Zhao took his place at the head of the table, his hands clasped before him, and began his speech.
“Everyone has probably heard from the news that the recent extremist resistance organizations have developed a new drug. They claim that consuming this drug will expand the human brain to three to five times its original capacity and grant extraordinary abilities beyond human limits.”
“These extraordinary abilities manifest in various forms, as you’ve likely seen in the news.”
“However, according to the research institute’s data, consuming this drug does not guarantee the development of extraordinary abilities.”
