Chapter 12 – Compensation
She was arguing with someone.
“Compensation? What kind of compensation is this? Three free uses of the nutrient tank? Ha, your medical department is too stingy. If it hadn’t been for Xie Xu, she would have died. This half-hearted compensation—is this an attempt to force us to take this to the Federal Court? Don’t forget the stipulations of the ‘New Federal Law’—the safety of pioneers is paramount.”
“It is indeed our medical department’s responsibility for this incident, but one of our intern doctors also died in this accident. We hope for some understanding from you, Ms. Xi.”
Tu Ran recognized this as an attempt to elicit sympathy.
As for the intern doctor he mentioned, Tu Ran guessed it was the one who was curious about everything and stayed behind to observe the scene.
What a poor guy. It must not have been easy for him to transition from an ordinary citizen to the medical department, only to lose his life before he could even secure a permanent position.
“There’s no need to play the sympathy card with me,” Xi Chunzhi remained unyielding, her attitude strong. “If I remember correctly, six months ago, you applied to the Federal Center for armed protection with a level of equipment that even the pioneering team can’t match. So, what, were those pieces of equipment fed to dogs?”
Tu Ran was taken aback. She hadn’t expected the goddess-like Xi Chunzhi to be so adept at arguing, and it was refreshing to hear.
She recalled that the armed team just now had been equipped with a laser gun, a weapon so powerful that only Xie Xu among the many people she saw today possessed one, indicating its rarity.
However, the medical department hadn’t utilized it to its fullest, resulting in the death of one of their intern doctors.
The more imposing Xi Chunzhi became, the more humble the attitude of the medical department’s personnel grew.
A new voice spoke with Xi Chunzhi.
This person’s attitude was much better than the previous one, sincerely proposing a solution.
“The appearance of an alien species in the recovery room was unexpected for us as well. The majority of the armed equipment we applied for from the Federation was allocated to the entrances and exits of the medical department. There was only one team stationed outside the nutrient tank room.”
“Due to the special absorption principles of the nutrient fluid, a quiet environment is necessary, and for patient privacy reasons, we assigned one doctor to each recovery room to monitor the patients’ vital signs.”
“This Herog was brought back by you pioneers. After consuming the host’s flesh and blood, it was still unsatisfied and emerged from the nutrient tank, encountering our intern doctor. It was the intern’s first time seeing such a creature, and in his panic, he failed to press the alarm button before he died. Consequently, the guards outside were not alerted and did not arrive in time.”
Xi Chunzhi’s attitude softened a bit. She asked coolly, “So, what do you plan to do about it?”
She was trying her best to secure the maximum benefits for Tu Ran.
“How about this: we offer Ms. Tu Ran one year of free medical services. All her medical, surgical, diagnostic, and rehabilitation costs for a year will be waived to express our medical department’s apology to Ms. Tu Ran.”
Tu Ran, who was putting two bombs and a “stone” into the pocket of her new pants, was quite satisfied with this compensation.
Given her current role as a pioneer, dealing with such fierce alien species meant getting injured would be commonplace. Free medical care for a year was a very sincere compensation.
