Developing Superpowers in Another World

Re-examination

Chapter 11 – Re-examination

Tu Ran took a step back, her back pressing against the cold glass of the nutrient tank. With a determined look, she mustered all her strength and charged forward.

The nutrient tank instantly tilted and fell with a crash, landing on the Herog’s body. The glass shattered on impact, spilling nutrient fluid everywhere. Numerous glass shards embedded themselves in the monster’s fleshy tentacles.

The alarm blared.

Tu Ran didn’t dare to delay. She quickly pulled off her breathing mask and ran towards the door.

She remembered the conversation she had overheard before falling asleep.

There were guards outside.

Behind her, she heard a rustling sound. The Herog was quickly closing in on her.

Unafraid of bullets, a few glass shards would do nothing to harm it.

Tu Ran felt a wave of despair, on the verge of tears. She had just arrived in this world, couldn’t she have a bit of a reprieve?
The worst part was that her only two remaining bombs were with her clothes in the locker room.

Now, running was her only option.

Suddenly, a dark figure leapt out from a nearby tall nutrient tank.

Before Tu Ran could react, her vision went black as a thin blanket was thrown over her head.

Struggling, she managed to peek out, wrapping the blanket around her nearly unclothed body, stripped for healing purposes.

She looked back.

It was Xie Xu.

He was shooting at the Herog with a pistol, constantly changing positions to avoid the monster’s tentacles.

The bullets couldn’t kill the Herog, not even make it bleed, but they did slow it down and buy some time.

The guards finally arrived, albeit late.

They surrounded the Herog, trapping it in the center. A laser gun emitted a blue beam, slicing through the Herog’s thick tentacles, filling the room with the unpleasant smell of burning flesh.

In an instant, the once-arrogant monster was reduced to a bald fish head, rolling on the ground, truly resembling a fish on a chopping board.

“Take it back to the lab,” Xie Xu ordered calmly, staring at the fish head on the floor.

The surrounding guards gathered, using pre-prepared bags to collect the fragments of the monster’s body.

Xie Xu stepped back from the crowd.

Only then did Tu Ran notice that he was wearing nothing but a thin shirt.

His hair was also a bit wet. Tu Ran reasonably suspected that he had been soaking in a nutrient tank as well.

Upon hearing the commotion, he must have quickly emerged from the nutrient tank and thrown on some clothes.

The disturbance had alarmed everyone in the medical department. Since one alien species had managed to infiltrate, it was possible that more could follow.

The head of the medical department arrived urgently, coordinating with the guards from the enforcement division to secure the area.

There were still injured people in the nutrient tanks who had not awakened and could not be forcibly roused. They arranged for officers to guard them and scheduled a re-examination for those pioneers who had already woken up.

At the same time, all pioneers who had survived the Frontier today were subjected to a more stringent examination.

As a victim who had nearly been swallowed whole, Tu Ran was first taken by a nurse to an adjacent room to change clothes.

Her old clothes were too dirty to wear. The nurse brought her a clean set of regular clothes.

Tu Ran dressed slowly, worried. She had barely passed the initial screening; she wouldn’t be so lucky with the re-examination.

She had no memories of this world, not even her original name, which she had seen on a name tag.

What was she going to do?

At that moment, a familiar voice came from outside the changing room door.

Through the door, Tu Ran recognized Xi Chunzhi’s voice, now tinged with indifference and disdain.
