Episode 4.
It seems the awakening has failed again.
When I woke up, I was in bed, and the emperor was not in the room. He must be quite angry. It was easy to tell whether he was angry or not.
Heldebrandt was an absolute ruler, like a King. If things didn’t go as he wanted, someone would pay the price, even with their life. Of course, that changed when he met Yurián.
From the beginning, I never believed in the affection Heldebrandt had for me. In the original novel “Cry, Your Majesty,” the relationship between Yvonne and Heldebrandt progresses after the death of Princess Yvonne.
Yurián escapes and comes back to meet the emperor. Then they start falling in love. Yurián tries to revenge against the emperor who imprisoned and insulted him, but the emperor is drawn to him challenge. Moreover, there is almost no mention of Princess Yvonne’s thoughts.
That scoundrel who dared to kill my beloved daughter! After Yvonne’s death, there is hardly any recollection.
“Ah…”
I slipped out of the bed covered with luxurious silk sheets.
I thought he wouldn’t have just left, but apparently.
The room was a mess. My father’s side effect was alcohol. He had to drink as much as he used his abilities. Judging by the shattered bottles scattered near the sofa, it seemed like he had drunk a considerable amount. Still, it seemed less than usual.
Originally, the carpet laid on the floor was damp everywhere or covered with broken glass shards, making it likely to step on something or get something stuck in the sole.
The strange thing was that despite the chaos in the room, he didn’t touch anything sacred like the bed. He probably thought I still had some use.
I needed to quickly escape this wretched palace.
There was about a month left until he went on a tour of the local nobility. Whether I awaken or not, it would be wise to escape.
Within that time, I needed to resolve all the conflicts, including releasing Yurián.
Yurián is the main character in the original novel who kills Princess Yvonne. To avoid any complications, she needed to be released and separated well.
Anyway, my father, Emperor Heldebrandt, is the protagonist of this novel. Despite the tragic fate awaiting him, they eventually fall in love.
The throbbing head and the lack of strength in my body were now familiar.
‘He seems really angry.’
The remnants of the stabilizer bottle in the wardrobe were shattered on the floor.
What makes this world really cruel is that even among espers, guides are even rarer.
To the extent that not even the emperor has a guide. Of course, it might be because he hates women, but guides were scarce, and finding a high-level esper with a matching high-level guide was even rarer.
Moreover, if you found a guide, there was usually already a partner.
Still, there was no law saying you had to die, so taking stabilizers could endure.
The problem is that without stabilizers, you have to endure it very painfully. The reason Heldebrandt destroyed all my stabilizers was undoubtedly a kind of catharsis.
Enduring without stabilizers had become quite familiar. In fact, I had hidden some. My determination to escape this palace was not a one or two-day affair. It’s a shame to use them as emergency supplies, but there was no other choice.
The problem was Yurián.
In reality, I had hidden not stabilizers but the maker of stabilizers on another island, so if I escaped from here, the supply would be possible at any time. On the contrary, bringing them from the outside was difficult.
But what I had hidden in the palace was ten bottles. In other words, it was meant for ten days. There was almost no possibility of the emperor venting his anger in there.
In case, I removed the frame with an apple drawing.
“Damn.”
Not only did he not go out, but all the emergency medicine bottles inside were shattered.
Damn. It’s ruined.
* * *
Strangely, there were no side effects. Even though I couldn’t use my strength, I had been suffering from magical pain all along. However, for some reason, it was fine this time. Perhaps the stabilizer I heard was very potent last time, so its effects might not have worn off yet.
“Your Highness.”
“What?”
“His Majesty sent this to you.”
“Huh.”
“Why did Dad send this?”
“…I don’t know.”
What Heldebrandt sent was a rabbit doll.
Well, is this meant for me to enjoy pain while holding it?
Anyway, he’s in a bad mood.
But I couldn’t express that.
Think about it, yesterday there was someone who replicated me. Now, it was clear that it was to pressure me since his patience had reached its limit.
“Tell Dad I was very moved, Yvonne.”
Feigning tears, Yvonne looked at me with fists clenched on her chest, as if she had been moved.
“Yes, Your Highness. I am on your side.”
“Thank you, Yvonne. You’re the only one I have.”
“Your Highness…”
Yvonne was an older maid. Perhaps the reason Heldebrandt assigned Yvonne to me was out of some pity. After all, I grew up without a mother.
Although it wasn’t mentioned in the original work, it seemed that Princess Yvonne was undoubtedly not mixed with a single drop of the emperor’s blood.
From the rabbit doll in my arms, a strong scent of freesia emanated. Disgustingly.
Of course, that scent was Heldebrandt’s favorite.
Before my condition got worse, I thought I should prepare something for Yurián to eat, so I gathered a basin with food and a towel from the kitchen and went down to the basement.
Before knocking on the door, I hesitated for a moment. However, seeing Yvonne looking at me strangely, I simply opened the door.
With a creaking sound, the door opened, and I found it difficult to balance because I had too much in my arms.
“Ugh…”
As the door closed, the sound from below became clear. The bag on my thigh contained first aid supplies. I had put it on my thigh so that Yvonne wouldn’t notice. Although the emperor’s command forced him to submit, my goal was to release him and escape from this palace.
“Hey.”
He was crouching on the floor. Whether it was cold sweat or something else, black hair was stuck all over his cheek. Moreover, the red light in the restraint collar around his neck was flashing threateningly, making it impossible to get closer.
“Ugh….”
“Lord Leonhardt?”
Yurián seemed to endure pain, crouching and crying. He was looking at me, and teardrops rolled down his cheeks like chicken droppings.
His condition was undoubtedly that he had to take stabilizers more frequently than I did. That was why espers couldn’t rampage like madmen. When they experienced side effects, they suffered like being stabbed all over their bodies.
When side effects began, they couldn’t use their strength properly.
There was nothing I could do right now. Maybe I could wipe away some sweat.
“Lord Leonhardt.”
“Ugh, Your Highness… Please…”
Rather than just going out because there was no other choice, it seemed better to stay by him until he calmed down. I sat down next to him. After squeezing the towel in the basin to wipe his face, his breathing gradually became more regular.
A lot of cold sweat had come out, but his eyes were now cloudy, as if he couldn’t see anything again.
Looking closely, the light in the restraint collar around his neck was off.
“Your Highness.”
“Yes.”
“I beg you for medicine.”
“Unfortunately, there’s none today.”
“…Is that so?”
“Yes.”
I didn’t feel great either, probably because it would soon be my turn.
“Food will be left here, but please don’t eat it hastily. There’s something bad inside. Examine it carefully before eating.”
“What is it?”
“I don’t know. But it’s certain that you shouldn’t eat it. It’s meant for you.”
He was leaning on my shoulder, and I wanted to quickly get rid of it because it was heavy. Moreover, being this close felt awkward.
“Lord.”
“Yes.”
“If you’re feeling better now, please step back. My shoulder hurts.”
“…Yes.”
As he began to move away from me, the light in the restraint collar around his neck flickered. I pondered why the light came on at this moment, and as I looked directly at him, our eyes met.
I see. He was really trying to confirm if I was Princess Yvonne.
In turn, I also stared straight at him. At that moment, he seemed to widen his eyes and, despite that, remained silent, looking at me as if he had forgotten to breathe.
