Strange Shadow by the lake

Bian Shengjian didn’t look at him again, reached out and stopped a taxi.

“I’m leaving, take care of yourself.”

“Pay attention to safety on the road.”

Lu Shen waved his hand and let out a sigh of relief as he watched the car disappear at the end of the road.

Damn it.

“What to do next…” Lu Shen muttered to himself, and eventually hooked the corners of his mouth mockingly.

Lu Shen, what the hell did you just do last night?

He stood there for a long time before turning around, but he seemed to be moving through the crowd without a purpose. Except for the faint pain in his heart, he took a few deep breaths to restore his calmness, or his almost indifference.

What if you like it? It’s impossible for the two of you to end up together.

Ah….people and ghosts have different paths.

Lu Shen squeezed the palm of his hand a few times to get rid of the distracting thoughts in his heart. He took out his mobile phone and glanced at the time.

The expression on his face became solemn.

There are still 10 days until the next full moon night. As originally planned, proceed as usual.

The class after the long vacation was even more boring than the previous one. As soon as the class bell rang, one could see the next human-shaped sleeping pill walking into the classroom brightly, and then one would lose consciousness within the next ten minutes without any accident.

The agony.

Bian Shengjian squinted his eyes and played with his pen to disperse his sleepiness, but out of the corner of his eye he looked aside unconsciously. He saw Lu Shen still staring at the book in his unchanged posture for ten thousand years. He couldn’t help but sighed lightly.

After returning to school, he began to consciously alienate Lu Shen. For example, he would deliberately avoid him at lunch, but Lu Shen not only did not express any doubts about this situation, but appeared to be very cooperative. He did not bother him like before. Most of the time, he just sat alone in the corner of the classroom, looking very lonely, so lonely that Bian Shengjian couldn’t bear it.

However…..

Bian Shengjian sighed again. He doesn’t know how to deal with the relationship between the two now, but as long as he thought about that night, he couldn’t help but feel a little flustered, plus what Li Fei said to him before he left–it made impossible for him to get along with Lu Shen like he used to.

As for what happens in the future, we can only take one step at a time.

Bian Shengjian’s eyes returned to the textbook, and even if he couldn’t bear it, he forced himself to stare at it line by line, trying to stop the crazy thoughts in his head.

“Brother Jian, why have you been in a bad mood recently?” Zhou Li looked at him and asked, “Lovelorn?”

“I’ve never been in love and love is all nonsense.” Bian Shengjian snorted.

“Fuck, is it true?” Zhou Li glanced at him in surprise, “I thought you were as diligent in changing your girlfriends as you were in changing your clothes!”

“Go away.” Bian Shengjian squinted his eyes, “I’m telling you, I am very single-minded.”

“Really,” Zhou Li laughed, “I can’t see it! Then why haven’t you found a girlfriend yet? Don’t tell me you lack sexual desire, haha.”

Bian Shengjian didn’t speak, just took out the book and smacked it on his head.

“If I have frigidity, what are you? Widowed king?”

(t/n Frigidity-refers to the lack of sexual desire, which means no interest in sexual life, and it is also said to be a loss of libido.)

“Damn it!” Zhou Li rubbed his head angrily, “What’s wrong with a widowed king? If you have the ability–let’s go out and fight!”

“Don’t bother. I’m in a bad mood today.” Bian Shengjian frowned.

He didn’t know why, but when he woke up today, he felt a little flustered for no reason, and even his right eyelid kept on throbbing. As the saying goes, the left eye twitched over wealth and the right eye twitched over disaster….

Tsk, feudal superstition is not credible.

After taking a shower, Shengjian took a dry towel, wiped his face with it, and glanced at the time on his phone.

It was still early, just after eleven o’clock.

What date is it today? When Bian Shengjian was lying in bed bored, a thought suddenly flashed in his mind.

He stared at the date displayed on the phone, and took the damped towel back to the bathroom to hang it up for a long time.

For some reason, he was a little uneasy.

Bian Shengjian clearly remembered that on the 15th of last month, he experienced sleep paralysis, and that  Lu Shen let him drink a bowl of unknown and strange spell water.

Damn, don’t think about it, go to sleep.

Bian Shengjian got out of bed and turned off the light, plugged in earplugs and stared at the soft light from the night lamp to try to cultivate sleepiness. Then tucked his legs and tucked the corners of the quilt in.

The temperature has dropped sharply recently, and he feels a little cold when sleeping at night. Bian Shengjian also pulled a thin quilt from the closet, which made it at least bearable.

But tonight, he covered himself with another layer of quilt, changed his posture several times, yet he still felt a chill on his body.

“Why is it so cold….” Bian Shengjian muttered in a daze, curled up slightly and fell asleep facing the wall.

Late at night.

There was a slight sound of a door being opened in the silent corridor.  Lu Shen silently stood at the door of 503 and his eyes were a little deep. He took a deep breath and looked at his right hand, where there was a burn mark that was still somewhat hot.

The blood symbol worked. He took a deep breath and waited quietly.

If something happens to Bian Shengjian in a while, he could protect him as soon as possible. But if he guessed wrong at the beginning, then these residual thoughts…..

Lu Shen didn’t think about it any further, and the moment he heard the doorknob being turned, his figure flashed to the side, staring at the slowly turning doorknob of door 503.

Creak—the door opened, and the person inside came out.

Lu Shen’s heart suddenly throbbed, and when he faced Shengjian’s expressionless face, he didn’t know whether to be happy or sad for a while. His chest heaved a few times before he managed to stabilize his mind, slowly and tentatively. He opened his mouth and called out, “Third brother?”

Bian Shengjian didn’t respond, still staring at him blankly, but his eyes seemed to pass through him, staring quietly into the darkness in the distance.

“It was a success…?” Lu Shen muttered.

“Tell me, where is the next resentful spirit?” Lu Shen looked directly at him, his voice trembling.

A smile finally appeared on Bian Shengjian’s face, but that smile was unfamiliar, and his demeanor seemed to have changed to another person. It was extremely strange in the darkness.

Lu Shen waited patiently for several seconds, his face turned gloomy.

“Tell me, where is the next resentful spirit?”

Bian Shengjian still didn’t speak, put away the smile on his face, turned around and walked towards the stairs.

Lu Shen quickly followed, sticking to his side almost without leaving an inch, always ready for any change.

Bian Shengjian was unaware of this, but Lu Shen saw that his posture had clearly changed when he was walking, including going down the stairs. The tall boy in his walk actually looked like a little girl, and if anyone else saw this scene, they would be shocked and roll down the stairs.

Lu Shen followed him to the first floor. As Bian Shengjian reached out to push the locked security door–

–”Wait.” Lu Shen grabbed his hand. Bian Shengjian tilted his head and looked at him.

Lu Shen grabbed his arm and pulled him back, took out a key from his pocket and opened the door, then made a polite gesture of “please”.

Bian Shengjian hopped out, and Lu Shen followed him closely all the way. The moment he left the dormitory building, a gust of wind blew towards his face, with a strong chill.

“Which way?” Lu Shen asked.

Bian Shengjian didn’t say anything from the beginning to the end, just walked in one direction on his own.

Crossing the school road, stepping on the mottled and finely fragmented tree shadows, two footsteps sounded in the empty campus, which seemed especially ethereal in the silent night.

Lu Shen took a deep breath, and when he stopped, he looked up at the moon in the sky.

Full moon. The bright moonlight made him panic.

“Is it here?” Lu Shen glanced at the calm lake and frowned, “Are you sure?”

Bian Shengjian nodded, jumped down the steps, and suddenly started to accelerate, as if he was about to rush into the lake. Fortunately, Lu Shen quickly fished him back.

“Stop!”

Lu Shen ignored Bian Shengjian’s struggle as if his life depended on it, instead gripped his wrist and dragged him beside the lake, and said word by word, “Are you sure it’s here?”

Bian Shengjian stared at him fiercely but still did not speak.

“If you don’t speak, you are useless.” Lu Shen smiled coldly, and when Bian Sheng bit his wrist, he suddenly slapped him hard on the back.

 “Get out of here…”

Bian Shengjian staggered by the hard smack. The expression on his face instantly became bewildered, and a light blue mist suddenly rose above his head, and quickly gathered towards the lake as if alive.

After a long time, Lu Shen finally heard a grunt that sounded very familiar to him.

Lu Shen’s eyes softened for a moment.

Bian Shengjian stood supported by Lu Shen, endured the headache that was about to explode and opened his eyes. However the next second, his eyes suddenly widened–

 “..Fuck! Was I fucking sleepwalking!”

“Not sleepwalking.” Lu Shen said.

“I…” Bian Shengjian’s mouth opened slightly, and although he was extremely shocked, he could feel that his body was drained.

“…why am I here? Why are you here…you…”

Lu Shen held him firmly with one hand, but did not answer.

Bian Shengjian followed his line of sight, and subconsciously grabbed Lu Shen’s arm.

After a moment, the lake surface changed.

“Third brother, no matter what you see next, I ask you to believe in me.”

Lu Shen’s words reached his ears intermittently like a layer of cotton, and Bian Shengjian glanced at him blankly, appearing to have not heard of anything.

“There are really ghosts in this world.” Lu Shen said.

Bian Shengjian held his breath which made him a little breathless for a moment.

The nameless lake suddenly rolled under the moonlight, and the lake water turned into a strange black in an instant, with white and turbid foam, and it rushed towards the shore as if alive. The splashed lake water even wet his feet in slippers.

And in the tumbling black lake water, a white shadow faintly appeared.
