Bu Wei

Heart Demon (2.1)

Although Ning Buwei’s entrance wasn’t quite what he had imagined, it didn’t stop him from feeling murderous enough to want to kill someone.

The crowd, already in a killing frenzy, probably felt that the dog and the duck weren’t very intimidating, and quickly fell back into fighting.

However, the Canghai group with the surname Sang recognized their treasure. Sang Tian shouted angrily. “Who dares to steal our Canghai Tower’s precious treasure!?”

Ning Buwei shrunk the Soul-Calming Flowing Cloud and tucked it into his sleeve, saying coldly. “Sang Yun gave it to me.”

Sang Tian was momentarily speechless, then said, “I’m in charge of the Sang family now! Return the Soul-Calming Flowing Cloud!”

He probably thought Ning Buwei was just a small cultivator at the Golden Core stage, not worth fearing, and charged at him aggressively. At this time, Xie Jiu also realized that Ning Buwei had just tricked him into the formation earlier – the Seven Killings Formation hadn’t actually been broken. Angered at being fooled, he decided to go for a killing blow against Ning Buwei.

Ning Buwei nimbly dodged the pincer attack from both men while standing on the Suzaku knife, frowning as he searched everywhere for Chu Jun’s figure.

Chu Jun’s cultivation level had been unstable before, and he had become rather abnormal due to that evil energy. If that green light took the opportunity to ambush him and triggered his heart demon in the Seven Killings Formation, he might explode to death if they weren’t careful.

He cast two formations behind him toward Xie Jiu and Sang Tian, then swept his gaze across the high platform of the Changsheng Dao Field. Suddenly his gaze froze.

Chu Jun was fighting someone, his spiritual energy unstable, and his opponent – Ning Buwei thought for a moment that his eyes were playing tricks on him.

“Ning Fan?” Ning Buwei suddenly stopped. A figure flew past him, and he casually raised his sleeve to sweep it away.

Ning Fan raised his head and gave him a meaningful look, then announced loudly. “Today I come by orders of the Ning family head, Ning Buwei, to take Chu Jun’s life. If you all know what’s good for you, I’ll spare your lives!”

With his already high cultivation level plus his ability to transmit sound, his deep voice resonated throughout the entire Changsheng Dao Field and even around Dao Discussion Mountain.

At this time, someone below recognized Ning Buwei and shouted. “It’s the great demon Ning Buwei!”

“It’s Ning Buwei! This matter really is related to him!”

“How despicable! As expected, a demon only knows how to use underhanded methods!”

“Ning Buwei, come and face death!”

The crowd immediately became indignant, though many were too afraid of his reputation as a demon to rashly attack.

“That’s complete bullshit!” Jiang Yizheng shouted angrily. Though her voice wasn’t loud, it was clear enough for all the cultivators present to hear, “Just now it was Ning Buwei who broke the Seven Killings Formation and saved you all!”

However, Xie Jiu smiled slightly and said, “This Sevens Killing Formation hasn’t been broken yet, little girl.”

“She’s on Ning Buwei’s side!” Li Jianqing, who had luckily avoided being possessed by the parasitic gu, shouted loudly. “Everyone, don’t be deceived by her!”

Bu Qing, supporting the injured Zong Sheng, looked up at Ning Buwei in shock and said. “Senior brother, that’s- that’s the person who helped us leave Yumian Mountain!”

Jimo Hongcai frowned and said, “Let’s wait and see.”

Ning Buwei’s appearance instantly turned the clear battle lines into a confusing situation. The people below looked at him with disgust and wariness, which was quite unpleasant.

He looked at Ning Fan and sneered. “You’re just a dog who couldn’t even enter the main family’s gate back then, how dare you use my name to bark here? I, Ning Buwei, always kill people personally!”

Ning Buwei’s voice was even louder than Ning Fan’s by three degrees, and everyone heard it clearly, causing confusion to arise in their hearts once again.

“Maybe you’re both just acting!?” Li Jianqing shouted loudly. “Who doesn’t know about your cunning schemes and vicious methods!”

Everyone’s gaze instantly focused on him, and Li Jianqing became immediately smug, feeling brave and fearless. He pressed on. “If you hadn’t set this trap today, how could you have trapped both Venerable Jinghe and Dean Hao here!?”

At this, everyone immediately started agreeing.

Ning Buwei couldn’t be bothered to waste words with these rabble. He recognized this person as the one who had harassed Chu Jun before. The Suzaku knife instantly left his hand, piercing through Li Jianqing’s head in a flash. Red and white fluid splattered everywhere, yet the Suzaku knife returned to his hand without a drop of blood.

Everyone’s faces instantly turned ashen.

Ning Buwei tugged at the corner of his mouth, his eyes full of impatience, “Since when did my actions become subject to judgment by trash like you?”

“Ning Buwei, you’re going too far!” someone shouted angrily.

Ning Buwei coldly laughed. “Then come at me.”

The person who had just spoken seemed to evaporate into thin air, falling silent.

Sang Tian’s face darkened as he turned to Hao Zheng. “Dean Hao, say something.”

Hao Zheng’s attention was still on Ning Fan and Wang Bin. Hearing this, he stroked his beard and said, “My throat is a bit hoarse.”

Sang Tian: “???”

“Demon, you think we fear you?” Some sect elders indignantly flew toward him to attack. Seeing someone take the lead, others also reluctantly joined in.

Black mist swirled around Ning Buwei’s Suzaku knife as he surveyed his surroundings. Whether it was Ning Fan or these so-called righteous cultivators around him, he didn’t plan to spare any of them.

Unexpectedly, that group was swept back by a burst of energy.

The black markings on Chu Jun’s face had been suppressed at some point. He landed beside Ning Buwei and said, “He has nothing to do with this.”

Ning Buwei was stunned for a moment and turned to look at him.

But Chu Jun looked toward Ning Fan, “This person is the real culprit.”

Someone below shouted again. “Look at the black energy around Venerable Jinghe! Could he also be controlled by the parasitic gu!?”

Everyone’s expressions suddenly changed.

Sang Tian stepped back, his face full of wariness, “Venerable, are you planning to side with Ning Buwei?”

Chu Jun answered without hesitation. “Yes.”

The expressions on everyone’s faces were varied and fascinating, even Hao Zheng raised his eyebrows in surprise.

“Hahahahaha!” Ning Fan suddenly burst out laughing, his tone gloomy. “The revival of the Ning family is inevitable! You fools will be the first blood sacrifice! Xie Jiu!”

Hearing this, Xie Jiu frowned slightly but still brought out a square banner from his palm, embroidered with strange curse patterns. As he stood holding the banner in the center of the field, green light blazed around him. Those who thought they had luckily avoided being possessed by the parasitic gu suddenly began falling from the sky. Some tried to catch them with magical treasures, only to find their companions had gone berserk.

Even Hao Zheng and the elders from Wanxuan Academy changed expression, immediately sealing their meridians and sitting down to meditate. The rest followed suit, but those with insufficient cultivation couldn’t escape this calamity.

Even Chu Jun’s form wavered, with black markings spreading again across half his face. Ning Buwei quickly steadied him, saying, “You meditate and regulate your breath.”

Without waiting for Chu Jun to stop him, he took up the Suzaku knife and charged straight at Ning Fan.

Knowing that Ning Buwei’s cultivation was only at the Golden Core stage due to his previously shattered dantian, Ning Fan didn’t take him seriously at all. He easily blocked his strike with one hand and lowered his voice. “It’s rare for old acquaintances to meet again. Why does the young master want to kill me as soon as he sees me?”

“Naturally because vermin like you don’t deserve to live.” Ning Buwei sneered, bringing down another strike as thick black mist scattered around.

Ning Fan laughed. “The previous two meetings were interrupted by Venerable Jinghe. This time I’d like to properly experience the young master’s current abilities!”

He then summoned a curved hook from his divine consciousness, giving a sinister laugh, “Does the young master remember this hook?”

An image of his shoulder blade being pierced through in childhood flashed by.

Ning Buwei’s expression darkened, crimson surging in his eyes as killing intent erupted around him. His Suzaku knife entangled with the incoming hook, producing a teeth-grinding sound.

Ning Fan laughed. “That’s more like it! That’s more like it! Why keep that evil energy within you? Or are you truly afraid you’ll lose control, become a demon, completely lose your mind and turn into a monster that only knows how to kill—”

“Just like your parents.”

The wailing of fierce ghosts instantly echoed throughout the entire Changsheng Dao Field. Ning Buwei slammed both knife and hook heavily at Ning Fan, forcing him to retreat step by step, and said coldly, “Who sent you!?”

Ning Fan laughed heartily, “Don’t you know perfectly well who sent me? Don’t you know who you’re thinking of? What are you afraid of?”

“Nonsense!” Ning Buwei pulled back his Suzaku knife and suddenly spun backward while standing on it.

“This Seven Killings Formation devours all things, it’s the most domineering deadly formation. If you want to set up your Soul-Devouring Formation here, I’m afraid it will be completely devoured before you can even arrange it!” Ning Fan smiled smugly.

Ning Buwei’s fingers quickly formed seals, and hundreds of yellow paper talismans suddenly appeared around him, floating in the wind as they absorbed spiritual energy. He looked at Ning Fan with a cold smile, “Then try these talismans!”

Hundreds of talismans rushed toward Ning Fan, but suddenly dispersed when he moved to block them.

Ning Fan was stunned for a moment, then suddenly felt a chill behind him as the Suzaku knife thrust straight at his throat. He could only hastily dodge, but suddenly found himself unable to move his feet. He quickly flipped backward, only to have countless talismans cover his entire body before violently exploding.

Ning Fan shouted angrily and summoned the Four Seas Scroll, instantly wrapping it around himself, but even that scroll was blown to pieces.

“Only knows how to use underhanded tricks that can’t see the light of day!” Although Ning Fan’s injuries were only superficial, they were enough to anger him.

Ning Buwei sneered, “Look who’s talking.”

Ning Fan stared at him coldly, “If he hadn’t ordered not to take your life, do you think I would have spared you!?”

Ning Buwei’s gaze sharpened, “Too bad I don’t plan to spare you!”

“Father!” Feng Zizhang, who had finally arrived riding on Big Yellow, shouted loudly. “Catch the ruler!”

The Heavenly Wave Ruler obediently fell into Ning Buwei’s hand, instantly erupting with a burst of dazzling light.

Chu Jun, having finished regulating his breath, flew up to stand beside him, clearly intending to fight alongside him.

Ning Buwei noticed his unstable energy, especially the flickering black markings, and wanted to push him back, but was stopped by Chu Jun.

“Your current cultivation level is no match for him,” Chu Jun transmitted to him. “Even if you use your evil energy, you could only win miserably, and it would cost you half your life.”

Ning Buwei’s cultivation method was different from ordinary cultivators. Although he could occasionally burst forth and kill across several major realms, it came at the cost of consuming himself. Back then, when he killed several hundred people in one go, he ended up in a miserable state as a cripple, which wasn’t worth it.

He naturally knew this point, but had never cared about it.

“Don’t carelessly waste the body you’ve just nursed back to health,” Chu Jun’s voice was unhurried but carried an undebatable determination. “Otherwise Ning Xiu will cry while healing you again.”

Ning Buwei… Ning Buwei was convinced.

He didn’t care how he tormented himself, but he couldn’t bear to make his son worry and work hard — after all, he was still just a baby.

The black energy on the Suzaku knife immediately started to subside.

Seeing them whispering as if no one else was around, Ning Fan became furious, “Xie Jiu, raise the banner!”

Xie Jiu, guarding the Seven Killings Formation’s eye, frowned upon hearing this and transmitted. “Martial Uncle, Master said not to take Ning Buwei’s life.”

Ning Fan shot him a cold glance, and a green light struck down. The large banner rose with the wind, and except for the group of elders sitting in meditation resisting their heart demons, the many cultivators controlled by parasitic gu rushed toward Ning Buwei and Chu Jun as if their lives didn’t matter.

Ning Buwei raised his knife to kill, but was stopped by Chu Jun.

Instead of persuading him, Chu Jun calmly said, “I have a more efficient method. Help me suppress the evil energy in my body.”
