Chapter 4 Save the Female Match Sister In Love Drama
After Gao Lang and Bai Duoduo got in the car, Gao Lang frowned. “Duoduo.”
“Don’t say a word. This matter is your fault, the others didn’t say anything that wasn’t correct! In the future, we shall try not to show up. Don’t bother them anymore.” Bai Duoduo scowled.
“I understand.” Gao Lang always compromised unconditionally when facing Bai Duoduo. “It was hard work for you to wake so early to make the soup.”
“It’s no problem. Next time I’ll make it in the afternoon and you can bring it back to Auntie in the evening!” Bai Duoduo was a food livestreamer who ate her meals on camera; since she did live broadcasts in her spare time, her cooking skills were very good.
“Duoduo, why don’t you come to the company to help me!” Gao Lang made this decision after careful consideration. Li Huaiqing had resigned from her job at the company; at first, he’d actually been very happy. After all, there was no need to be embarrassed. But it didn’t take long for him to feel the pressure.
The new assistants and secretaries didn’t understand him well, and their skills were average. They couldn’t compare with Li Huaiqing.
Gao Lang didn’t want to admit that Li Huaiqing had talent. He thought it was because he and his assistant couldn’t get along.
But letting Bai Duoduo into the company was driven by Gao Lang’s selfish intentions. He wanted to see Bai Duoduo all the time, even if she wasn’t doing anything—just sitting there and allowing him to watch her would make him very happy.
“Li Huaiqing resigned, I didn’t get along well with the new assistant, she couldn’t understand me. The company is so busy; I haven’t had a good talk with you for a long time. Duoduo, come on, lend me a hand. Stay by my side, okay?” Gao Lang said, holding Bai Duoduo’s hand.
Bai Duoduo hesitated. She enjoyed live streaming. She had a lot of free time and income was good. With more than 200,000 fans on the internet, she ate and chatted with fans every day—she really liked this job.
But looking at Gao Lang’s adoring eyes, and the weight he had lost from stress—which was visible to the naked eye—Bai Duoduo still softened. “But I don’t know anything. I’m afraid I won’t be able to do well.”
“It’s okay, it’s not difficult at all. I’ll teach you, bit by bit!” Gao Lang said gladly. “Duoduo, I want to see you all the time. I want to be with you every day.”
Bai Duoduo leaned into Gao Lang’s arms and smiled.
Mama Gao, who came down to throw out the trash, happened to witness this scene. It filled her with anger. ‘You want to show your affection? Can’t you do it somewhere else? Why choose to do it at Huaiqing’s house? How uncomfortable would it be if Huaiqing saw this! No wonder Huairou speaks so indecently!’
While Mama Gao was muttering, she turned her head to see Li Huaiqing standing not far from her. Evidently, she had seen it too.
Mama Gao quickly threw the garbage away and wiped her hands. “Huaiqing, have you finished all your business? Are you tired?”
Li Huaiqing quickly looked away and gave a reluctant smile. “Right, it’s over. Auntie, let’s go back!” Huairou was alone at home, so she was worried.
“Okay, you go back first. Auntie will catch up,” Mama Gao assured hastily.
Li Huaiqing nodded, turned around, and went in.
Mama Gao watched her get on the elevator. Then she angrily turned and walked towards Gao Lang’s car. The two people in the car had already begun to hug each other, and Gao Lang’s hand was approaching somewhere it shouldn’t be approaching.
Mama Gao tapped the half-open car window. “Are you so impatient? You don’t even have time to close the windows?”
Gao Lang and Bai Duoduo hurriedly broke apart. Bai Duoduo flushed and hurriedly tidied up her clothes, absolutely embarrassed…
Gao Lang explained, “Mom, no, I…”
“Don’t explain, get out of here! Don’t show up here in the future!” Mama Gao was truly furious, huffing and turning around.
Gao Lang was speechless and looked at Bai Duoduo, whose eyes were red. He squeezed her hand. “Don’t worry, I’ll explain everything to my mother.”
“Stop talking, let’s go right away!” Bai Duoduo was now embarrassed and regretful—how could she let herself be seen by Auntie so coincidentally? Auntie didn’t like her in the first place; and now, Auntie must be thinking that she is a frivolous girl, and dislike her even more.
Gao Lang reluctantly drove away.
Because of this, Mama Gao ignored Gao Lang for several days. After learning that Gao Lang let Bai Duoduo join the company, Mama Gao became even angrier.
Papa Gao comforted her, “Alright, this is the end. What’s the use of being angry? Let him go. Soon he will be aware of how outrageous he is.” Huaiqing was smart and capable, a good child. As for Bai Duoduo, she was also a good child—but despite the fact that she’d been doing well in her own field, Gao Lang still insisted on bringing her into the company. Just wait, reality would teach them a lesson.
On Li Huaiqing’s side, the flower shop was running very smoothly. It was being renovated. Li Huairou went to the site to see it and was quite interested; she also gave many suggestions.
Upon seeing this, Li Huaiqing thought for a while, and brought up the matter of going to school to Li Huairou.
In the past, Li Huairou had been recovering from injuries, so Li Huaiqing applied for Li Huairou to take a leave of absence.
But Li Huairou didn’t plan on going back to school. She turned on her laptop and said, “Jie, look at this.”
Li Huaiqing leaned over and took a look. It was a string of words. “What is this?”
“I made money by writing novels on the internet. I’ve just started writing. Not many people read it, but I made more than a thousand yuan in the first month. Many people leave me a message every day. Jie, I prefer doing this. I think that if you give me a little more time, I’ll be sure to do even better. Anyway, my legs are like this now—I won’t be able to find a suitable job after graduating from university. It’s better to write novels at home.” This was Li Huairou’s thinking. Although her family wasn’t short of money, she couldn’t really stay at home and do nothing! That’d be so boring!
[1000 yuan is equivalent to around 155.6 US Dollar]
“Can I take a look?” Li Huaiqing asked with a smile.
Li Huairou immediately closed the laptop. “No! It’s too shameful!”
“Okay, okay, I won’t look, I won’t look at it!” Li Huaiqing grinned. “Huairou, have you really thought this through?”
“Yes, Jie, I feel so free and unrestrained in this way, it’s very nice!” Li Huairou exclaimed.
“Okay, as long as you’re happy!” Li Huaiqing replied with a smile, patting her little sister’s hair. As long as Huairou was happy. And as for any problems she encountered, Li Huaiqing would always be there for her.
Both the Li sisters had found a career that they liked. Coupled with the care of their housekeeper and the daily feeding provided by Mama Gao, their lives were safe and warm.
But Gao Lang and Bai Duoduo were not fine.
Bai Duoduo entered Gao Lang’s company and became his personal secretary. Her desk was in Gao Lang’s office; Gao Lang could see her as soon as he raised his head. Everyone in the company knew about her relationship with Gao Lang, so they were very warm to her.
But Bai Duoduo didn’t know anything about her job and could only sit there, browsing the internet, every day.
Gao Lang seemed to have forgotten about finding someone to teach her and only busied himself with his own affairs.
Bai Duoduo saw how busy Gao Lang was every day. She couldn’t disturb him with such a small thing, so she insisted on sucking it up and dealing with it. It’d be okay to prepare some snacks and coffee for him.
One day, Bai Duoduo went to the company kitchen to make coffee for Gao Lang, and overheard several female staff members talking about her.
“I don’t understand. You said she had a ‘good young mistress’ status. Then why did she come to the company? Did she come to stare at people? Not possible. Her monthly salary is about to catch up to the previous Director Li’s salary,” Employee A said.
“Really?” Employee B asked.
“Yesterday, when Ella was making the salary list, I happened to go over and ask for her signature. I saw it with my own eyes. You really think it could’ve been fake?” Employee A said, “Director Li got paid—I didn’t have any problems with that. There is no way, she did have the skill to do her job, and her academic qualifications were also there. But what about Bai Duoduo? She can’t do anything, she just sits there and browses the Internet! She just leisurely prepares snacks and coffee for President Gao and makes so much money in a month!”
Another person added, “And why do you think that is? Because she is President Gao’s bona fide girlfriend, she’s your boss’s future wife! You better watch what you say, in case someone hears. You have to be careful—didn’t you see how that Director Li was forced to resign? I heard that Director Li was the one who was adopted and raised since childhood by the chairman and his wife!”
“Right, clear out, clear out!”
Bai Duoduo quickly hid when she heard this. She waited until everyone in the kitchen had left before coming out. She tried hard to not let the tears flow, but couldn’t hold them back, hiding in the bathroom and crying bitterly.
As he was coming out of the meeting room, Gao Lang saw that Bai Duoduo was missing. He frowned slightly. After waiting for a while, there was still nobody. He took out his cellphone to make a call, but then he saw Bai Duoduo coming in with coffee and biscuits.
“Are you tired? How about you refresh yourself with a cup of coffee!” Bai Duoduo put the coffee and biscuits on the table, then turned around to go back to her seat.
Gao Lang, stood up, grabbing her hand. “You’ve been crying? What’s the matter? Has anyone bullied you?” Gao Lang asked anxiously.
“No! Who would bully me? I was just reading a novel—it was so tragic, I couldn’t help but cry,” Bai Duoduo quickly explained.
“Really?”
Gao Lang was still a little skeptical, but then Assistant Chen came in to give him a reminder: “President Gao, the meeting with the US company overseas will start in ten minutes. We have to prepare.”
“You hurry and get ready, I’m fine!” Bai Duoduo quickly broke away from Gao Lang’s grip and returned to her seat.
Gao Lang nodded and promptly dove into the video conference.
Bai Duoduo sat in front of the computer, watching Gao Lang working so busily. She wanted to help, but didn’t know what to do, so she could only blankly sit there. Thinking of the arguments those employees had made, she felt bitterness welling up in her heart.
The video conference lasted until one o’clock in the afternoon. Gao Lang told Bai Duoduo, “Don’t wait for me next time, go eat first.”
“It’s okay, I have biscuits. I’m not hungry,” she reassured with a smile.
“Let’s go, let’s go, I have an hour. We can have some Japanese food,” Gao Lang said, returning her smile.
Bai Duoduo nodded, obediently following Gao Lang out.
Even though Bai Duoduo hid it well, Gao Lang still noticed her absentmindedness. He didn’t ask further but quietly gave Assistant Chen an order to find out what was going on.
Assistant Chen was in the middle of eating. After receiving the message, she felt a little helpless. “Investigate”. How would she investigate? There were too many people in the company who had opinions on Bai Duoduo. Was she supposed to check them one by one?
Director Li was absent, everything was on Assistant Chen, and President Gao laid off the former secretary in order to give the job to Bai Duoduo. Assistant Chen was receiving more and more things to do.
How could she have the time to investigate these trivial things?
As for Bai Duoduo’s grievances, Assistant Chen didn’t feel that there was anything to kick up a fuss about. If Miss Bai couldn’t even muster up this much fortitude, what would happen in the future?
