Chapter 3 Save the Female Match Sister In Love Drama
After Li Huaiqing took a shower, she used the laundry basket to carry the dirty clothes and prepared to take them to the balcony to wash. As soon as she came out, she saw Li Huairou pushing her wheelchair and enthusiastically wandering around the house.
The house was actually not big, only about 120 square meters—not half the size of the Gao family’s house. But Huairou was very happy.
Li Huaiqing put the dirty clothes in the washing machine. She sat down on the sofa, picked up an apple, and peeled it. “Are you very happy?”
“Yes, of course I’m happy to come back to my own house. Jie, do you remember? I fell here when I was a child. My head hit the corner of the table and shed a lot of blood. At that time, all of you were terrified. Dad hugged me and we went to the hospital,” Li Huairou said excitedly.
Actually, Li Huaiqing didn’t remember much. In fact, ever since she moved in with the Gao family, she rarely recalled the past.
Li Huairou was still excited and asked, “Jie, do you remember this place? We were naughty and scratched the table with a knife. Mom was so angry and punished us by having us stand for a long time. When dad came back, mom said she didn’t feel bad about the table, she was actually afraid we would scratch our hands.”
With Li Huairou’s excited words, those recollections that Li Huaiqing had deliberately forgotten emerged, one by one. “I remember mom used to sit here to check my homework. Dad used this table to do arts and crafts for your kindergarten homework. You even thought it was ugly.”
The two sisters stood together, walked around the house, and looked at every corner. Together, they recalled the good memories that belonged to the past.
Late at night, Li Huaiqing was not sleepy at all. She sat at the bedside and looked at Li Huairou, who was asleep, deep in thought.
Have I been too selfish all these years? Just taking care of myself, I gave my entire heart to Gao Lang and the Gao family, forgetting our parents and neglecting Huairou.
But in the end, what did she get? Gao Lang’s fickle shifts in love, and now Huairou could only spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.
Li Huaiqing couldn’t help bursting into tears. Afraid that her cries would awaken her sister, she could only cover her mouth with her hands and weep silently.
Early in the morning, Mama Gao asked the driver to send her over, bringing breakfast. Li Huairou opened the door for her. Before Mama Gao could speak, she saw Li Huaiqing, busy in the kitchen and wearing an apron.
“Huaiqing!” Mama Gao was very distressed. Li Huaiqing was well-raised all these years in the Gao family; her hands were white and tender, and she didn’t have a single callus. When had she ever let Huaiqing into the kitchen? This was only the first day of moving out!
“Auntie, why have you come so early!” Li Huaiqing said with a smile. “Have you eaten breakfast? I made Sanxian porridge, it’s almost done.”
[Sanxian porridge (三鲜粥) is a medicate diet and a traditional local snack in Lishui, Zhejiang]
“Don’t busy yourself, quickly sit down. I had housekeeper Liu make breakfast,” Mama Gao said, distressed.
“It’s almost done.”
Ten minutes later, the Sanxian porridge was done. Li Huaiqing served Mama Gao and Li Huairou first. Li Huairou took a sip, widened her eyes, and gave Li Huaiqing a thumbs up. “It’s delicious! The taste is the same as mom’s cooking. Jie, you’re awesome!”
Mama Gao, dubious, took a sip and raised her head, her eyes a little conflicted. It was a little bit like the Li sisters mother’s cooking.
Li Huaiqing was a little embarrassed, so she lowered her head and took a sip. The taste was good, but it wasn’t really as amazing as Huairou said!
However, now she felt that washing her hands and cooking for her family felt really good!
After eating, Li Huaiqing went to wash the dishes again.
Mama Gao looked at Li Huaiqing’s white hands, which were soaked in soap, and felt even more distressed. “Huaiqing, why don’t you invite a housekeeper! It’ll be too hard for you alone! You have to manage a shop, and it feels worrisome to leave Huairou alone at home!”
Li Huaiqing nodded, “I think so too, but I can’t find the right person at the moment.”
Upon hearing this, Mama Gao happily suggested, “If you believe me, I’ll help you find and bring the person tomorrow.”
Li Huaiqing naturally believed in Mama Gao’s insight. “Auntie naturally has good judgement. Then, I’ll be troubling you.”
Li Huairou also had no objection to this. Papa Gao and Mama Gao really never mistreated the two sisters—no different from their own birth parents. In the novel, after discovering what Li Huaiqing did, the measure of their disappointment for her was the same as the love they gave her at the beginning.
But even like this, they still cared about Li Huaiqing. Many times, they asked Gao Lang about Li Huaiqing’s whereabouts, but Gao Lang always brushed it aside.
In the end, Papa Gao and Mama Gao still found out about what Li Huaiqing had done. Because it was so bloody and tragic, Mama Gao had a heart attack on the spot; she passed away after being sent to the hospital. Papa Gao was rescued in time, but he was paralyzed, and never said a word to Gao Lang since.
When his parents became like this, Gao Lang was sad, but he didn’t regret it. He wasn’t in the wrong. It was all Li Huaiqing’s fault.
Thinking about this, Li Huairou frowned. In her opinion, Li Huaiqing was indeed wrong, but was Gao Lang completely innocent? Before Bai Duoduo appeared, he had an ambiguous attitude towards Li Huaiqing. Other people misunderstood that they were a couple; he never thought about explaining.
But as soon as his true love appeared, he abandoned Li Huaiqing. There was no explanation, not even an apology.
The culprit was Gao Lang!
After breakfast, because Mama Gao was present, Li Huaiqing was relieved to go work in the store.
Mama Gao and Li Huairou watched TV at home, talking and laughing. The atmosphere was quite harmonious.
Suddenly, Mama Gao’s cell phone rang. She glanced at the phone and then at Li Huairou. Standing up, she walked to the balcony to answer the phone.
“What’s the matter? Stop asking where I am! I won’t go, I don’t have time, and I don’t want to see you! That’s it, goodbye!” Mama Gao angrily hung up the phone.
Li Huairou smiled. “Auntie, if you have something to do, you can go. I’m fine, my sister should be back soon.”
“That’s no good. Your sister entrusted you to me—how can I go? It’s nothing important.” As soon as Mama Gao finished speaking, the phone rang again. She hung up and immediately blocked the caller.
On the other end, Gao Lang furrowed his brow. Upon seeing this, Bai Duoduo felt sad. “Forget it, don’t call. Auntie doesn’t have time.”
“But you spent the whole morning making soup for mom.” Gao Lang was very upset. Bai Duoduo had heard that his mother was not in good health, so she spent a few hours making herbal soup. “I know where my mother is. Take the soup, we’ll go there.”
Leaving no room for further argument, he pulled Bai Duoduo away.
When she heard a knock at the door, Mama Gao thought it was Li Huaiqing who had come back. “Back so early? Have you finished everything?” But when she saw the person coming, her face immediately sank.
This was what she said to Bai Duoduo: “Why are you here? You’re not welcome here!”
Bai Duoduo instantly looked aggrieved and sorrowful.
Gao Lang immediately raised his voice to protest this injustice for his lover: “Mom, why do you say that? Duoduo knows that you’re not in good health, so she got up early in the morning and spent four to five hours making soup for you. We call you to come and you don’t appreciate it—now we send it to the door and you still say that. Mom, you’re really too much!”
“The excessive one is you, isn’t it?” Li Huairou appeared behind Mama Gao. “This is my house. What do you mean by bringing Miss Bai?”
Gao Lang saw Li Huairou sitting in a wheelchair and his momentum suddenly flagged. In any case, Li Huairou had become like this, and he had a part of the responsibility.
“Gao Lang-ge, since childhood, everyone around you—including all your friends—thought that you and my sister were a couple. They even called my sister ‘sister-in-law’ in front of you. I also recall that you never denied it.” Li Huairou accused, word by word, “My sister doesn’t have you as her only choice. She’s so good that there are so many people who like her. It’s just that you gave her a false impression that she shouldn’t have had, and she was reluctant to part with the warmth given by Uncle and Auntie, so she devoted herself to you. But what did you do? Without a word, you took Miss Bai home and said that she was your girlfriend, that you wanted to get married, that you wanted to spend a lifetime together. What is my sister to you? What were you being so wishy-washy for? Gao Lang-ge, don’t you think you owe my sister an apology?”
Her voice was very soft, but Gao Lang was speechless.
What Li Huairou said was the truth.
“Huairou, I acted wrongly before, but I didn’t mean it. I really used to think that it was love. But after meeting Duoduo, I knew what true love was. My feelings toward Huaiqing are the feelings between brother and sister,” Gao Lang explained.
“I don’t want to argue with you about love. It’s just that you owe my sister an explanation and an apology. However, this isn’t important right now. We sisters will always remember the kindness given by Uncle and Auntie—but Gao Lang-ge, no matter what happens in the future, I hope you and Miss Bai never show up in front of my sister and me again. Because when I see you, I remember that rainy night, remember the worry and the fear of that night, the pain of being crushed under a car. Do you understand?” Li Huairou stated flatly.
“Huairou!” Mama Gao’s eyes were red with pain.
“I’m sorry. We won’t appear in front of you again in the future,” Bai Duoduo interrupted before Gao Lang could speak. Then she took Gao Lang’s hand and urged, “Let’s go!”
“Goodbye, Auntie.” Bai Duoduo took Gao Lang’s hand and walked away, and even the soup was taken with them.
Mama Gao closed the door and looked at Li Huairou. “Huairou!”
“Auntie, my sister finally got her mind off these matters. I’m afraid that if she sees Gao Lang-ge and Miss Bai, she’ll remember what happened before. I’m afraid that she won’t be able to escape this relationship. This isn’t good for her,” Li Huairou said in a low voice.
Mama Gao sighed, “Huairou, Auntie will tell you something from the heart. Your uncle and I are truly fond of your sister. You know, your sister is our acknowledged daughter-in-law. I regret it now—not letting them get engaged in the first place.”
“What’s the use of getting engaged, or even getting married? People can still get divorced.” Li Huairou smiled. “Auntie, there’s no way to force a relationship. You know how stubborn Gao Lang-ge is; you and uncle can’t control him. It’s better to let him go. Besides, my sister is very outstanding, so there will definitely be another person with a good eye in the future.”
Mama Gao sighed, “We can only do this now. As long as both of you are well. Otherwise, I’ll always feel regretful regarding the two of you.”
