The unspoken words lingered between the two, and both of them understood the meaning.
An Ping stepped out and closed the door, only to see the outside in complete disarray.
Many things were shattered, and the walls bore marks from bullets.
Some enemies were subdued by their own people. An Ping took special note and realized that the Fanying family members were not among them.
“Did you see the other group of people?”
“They’ve already left.”
Like An Ping, Yize faced the outside, recalling how that group had retreated the moment they saw them.
So the gunfire that An Ping heard later was from them.
An Ping didn’t dwell on it much, thinking about what He Jingsi had entrusted him with.
“Since you’re here, I’ll be leaving.”
“Mm.”
An Ping entered the room, pretended to cough, picked something up, and then left.
Seeing An Ping leave, Yize waved his hand and signaled for the captured people to be taken away, before slowly entering the ward. Sunlight streamed into the room, creating a warm atmosphere.
Yize approached slowly and stood beside him.
Looking at the person lying there without a hint of life, motionless and silent, he recalled how this person had quickly pinpointed the enemy’s location amidst gunfire and rushed out to shoot.
“When will you wake up? We all need you.”
He stood for a while before uttering that single line.
The person on the bed still showed no response, as if he were speaking to the air.
It wasn’t until someone arrived from outside that Yize stepped out.
Upon reaching the door, he saw an unexpected figure. Yize composed himself and put on a solemn expression.
“Oh, it’s the deputy minister. I thought they called me out because the minister was coming personally!”
Yize’s words darkened the deputy minister’s expression by a lot. It was a sarcastic remark about his lower rank despite his high influence.
He forced a laugh, not wanting to show anger.
“Isn’t it because of the recent increase in terrorist attacks? I’m afraid I won’t know when my time’s up without more people around!”
He wiped the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief, his slightly plump figure moving.
Yize scoffed, “If someone wanted to kill you, would they be worried about how many people are around? You really think too much.”
“Yes, yes, yes, it’s my oversight.”
After the deputy minister humbly agreed, he hesitated before asking about He Jingsi.
“Do you know if he has woken up?”
This time, Yize’s gaze fell on him. His eyes were dark, making it hard to discern his thoughts.
“The doctor said he won’t wake up. I wonder if the deputy minister has any solutions?”
“This…” The deputy minister became awkward. “Since the doctor has said he won’t wake up, we should accept our grief and move on!”
Yize retorted lightly, “Accept our grief and move on, huh!”
Unable to tolerate the atmosphere any longer, the deputy minister quickly left.
Squinting as he watched the person leave, he called over someone.
Yize whispered a few words in his ear, and the person quickly disappeared from sight.
Once the person left, Yize withdrew his gaze and subconsciously touched the ring on his middle finger.
Outside the hospital, the deputy minister immediately changed his appearance.
“That sly guy Yize really doesn’t miss a chance to ridicule me.”
After cursing a few times in return, a person next to the deputy minister leaned in and said a few words. After listening, his expression brightened.
“Is what you said true?”
“Absolutely true. I saw them personally going in to buy wreaths and various items. Their expressions were quite grim.”
“It seems He Jingsi really won’t wake up, so that group doesn’t have to worry about being exposed.”
