Bai Naihan, the uncle of the main antagonist, joined the military early in life due to his family’s poverty. After getting injured, he retired but accumulated significant connections and achievements. Unfortunately, his injuries were severe, leaving him with a slight limp that was noticeable when he walked quickly.
After the initial improvement in his leg injury, he was assigned to an iron and steel plant. Later, with the changes brought about by the Reform and Opening-up policy, the factory underwent mergers, and the demand for personnel decreased. Due to his significant contributions, the leadership wanted to transfer him to a more comfortable position, but he refused.
This insightful uncle of the main antagonist took advantage of the opportunities brought about by the Reform and Opening-up to start his own business. He ventured into real estate, the entertainment industry, the film sector, and the technology industry, essentially anything that made money. His enterprises flourished in various fields, becoming the main support for the major antagonist Bai Jin’an.
However, he never married, and due to injuries sustained in his youth and the actions of Bai Jin’an, his adversary, he inadvertently fell victim to a rival’s plot and died at a young age.
In the original work, his death left Bai Jin’an without anyone to restrain him, allowing him to inherit the family’s wealth and become even more reckless. Bai Jin’an’s subsequent fate was even more tragic, ultimately contributing to the main character’s success.
Thinking about these plot points from the original story, Yun Qinghuan’s headache intensified. Honestly, she cared little for Bai Jin’an, the purported son, and his uncle Bai Naihan. Her primary concern was her current situation.
This was the famous and difficult 1970s in history, where regulations were stringent, and without a letter of introduction, attempting to escape alone was virtually impossible. If kidnapped and taken to remote areas, the collective nature of impoverished places made the chances of escape nearly zero. If that were to happen, her life would be ruined.
Yun Qinghuan was a selfish person, but she had her limits. Realizing she had crossed into another person’s body, even though she knew she might have died in her original world, she tentatively explored the idea of returning the body to its rightful owner.
She couldn’t selfishly seize someone else’s body without reason. Unfortunately, the memories revealed that the original owner, after the accidental death of her husband Bai Wensong, lost her will to live. The severity of her illness in this instance surpassed that in the original story, leading to her demise.
So, when Yun Qinghuan crossed into this body, the body had already cooled, and the original owner had been lifeless for quite some time. There was no possibility of returning the body to her.
Yun Qinghuan instantly tensed up, unable to rest well. She quickly reviewed the information in her mind, and after forming a rough plan to drive away the original owner’s parents, she went out.
Their arrival further confirmed to her that she must find a way to stay in the Bai family. Considering the recent encounter and the memories of the original owner, the Bai family had a simple household: the husband had passed away, leaving only the mother-in-law, Liu Yuzhi, the son Bai Jin’an, and an uncle who had retired due to injury, Bai Naihan.
Including herself, they were just four individuals. Liu Yuzhi, the mother-in-law, was understanding, and Bai Jin’an, being the biological son of the original owner, wouldn’t likely conflict with her.
Bai Naihan, the younger uncle, managed to save his allowances to help his brother get married, and being the future uncle who would dote on Bai Jin’an for life, he seemed to be someone who valued family bonds. His protective stance during the recent confrontation with Chen Pandi indicated a certain level of respect for her.
For now, staying in the Bai family appeared to be the safest option. If she were taken back to the original owner’s parents’ home, she feared she might be forced into a remarriage, just like the original owner, marrying an abusive man and meeting a tragic end.
Therefore, returning to the Yun family was absolutely out of the question. At least in the Bai family, there was Bai Naihan, the bigshot, and Bai Jin’an, the antagonist. Since the main story began in the 1990s, for now, she was quite safe, and the Bai family was secure as well. At least, making it through until the resumption of the college entrance examination was not a problem.
Once the college entrance examination was reinstated, she would have the ability to break free from both the Bai and Yun families…
Yun Qinghuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Now, she was thinking about how to make the Yun family give up on the idea of her remarrying, even if it meant the death of someone from the Yun family. After all, judging by the attitude of the original owner’s parents today, they won’t easily give up.
If the Yun family keeps causing trouble every day, the Bai family, with its old, frail members, may not be able to protect her indefinitely and prevent her from being taken away by the Yun family.
With these thoughts swirling in her mind, even though her stomach was growling from hunger, Yun Qinghuan still managed to fall asleep.
Outside, Liu Yuzhi sighed as she looked at the messy scene. She tightly clutched the money in her hand, then quickly approached her younger son, wanting to check his leg. “You used so much force just now; did the wound tear open?”
Bai Naihan instinctively avoided her gaze. “Mom, I’m fine. I know what I’m doing.”
Liu Yuzhi, eyes sharp, patted his back lightly and noticed that the bandage on his leg was stained with fresh blood. “Don’t tell me you’re really aiming to never walk again?”
Bai Naihan lowered his head, lips pressed together without uttering a word.
On the side, Bai Jin’an also came over nervously to check on him. Although the little guy was still young, he knew that his uncle was injured, especially because he got hurt protecting him from bad people.
“Uncle?”
The little guy widened his eyes, looking at him with concern.
Bai Naihan couldn’t help but feel a warmth in his heart. He raised his hand and placed it on the boy’s head, ruffling his hair. “Don’t worry, Uncle is fine.”
Liu Yuzhi furrowed her brows. “I’ll go and call the village doctor. You need to have that wound checked properly.”
“Mom, there’s no need.” Bai Naihan didn’t want to trouble her.
He often got injured on missions, and a simple wound like this he could handle on his own.
Liu Yuzhi glared at him. “When I say to do it, you do it. Besides, it’s not just for checking your leg; your sister-in-law has been ill and unconscious for the past few days. Now that she’s finally awake, I’ll definitely call the doctor to see if she’s really recovered.”
With her words, Bai Naihan swallowed back what he was about to say. Indeed, it would be a good idea to call the village doctor to check on his sister-in-law, as she still looked quite pale.
