A Blank Slate Regression For The Idol That Lost His Original Intention

Today was the day when the leaders of the groups participating in M Company’s “Big Match” special stage gathered to shoot a short VCR to be aired before their performances.

Since we had already been informed of the group we would be switching songs with, I just had to think of it as shooting a staged video.

There were six groups participating in the special stage, a mix of this year’s rookies and first-year idols.

As soon as the leader of KICKS saw me, he furrowed his brows and turned his head away. I smirked at him.

“Please, don’t pretend to be friendly, and make sure you keep showing that attitude in front of the camera too.”

“What are you talking about? Instead of spewing nonsense, why don’t you delete Hyun-min’s photos?”

“Why should I? As long as Choi Hyun-min behaves, I won’t have any reason to spread those photos. So, take care of your members properly, and by the way, the nonsense isn’t coming from me, it’s coming from Choi Hyun-min and you.”

As we exchanged these ominously low whispers, the staff entered the room.

A box with a circular hole on the top and six balls were placed in front of us.

The box was opaque, so you couldn’t see inside. Perfect for rigging.

“We’ll shoot one cut at a time.”

The first to pick a ball was the leader of KICKS.

It was obvious there would only be one ball in the box labeled with REVE, but the KICKS leader pretended to search for a while before finally pulling out his hand.

After holding the ball up to the camera, the KICKS leader returned to his seat, and the staff nonchalantly tossed a new ball into the box.

The four people ahead of me picked their balls, and then it was my turn. As soon as I put my hand in the box, I grabbed the only ball inside.

As expected, the ball said KICKS. I casually held it up to the camera.

Unlike song selection, the order of performance was determined by a real draw, not rigged.

The group performing first would go up first, and the second group would go up later.

The order didn’t matter to me. Whether we went first or last, the group that did better would win.

After I lifted the ball toward the camera, the filming finally ended.

By the way, REVE was performing second.

Before leaving, the KICKS leader approached me with a mocking smile and said,

“Did you practice a lot? Looking at your group, it seems like even pulling off a basic synchronized routine would be a challenge.”

Damn it, Seo Ye-hyun!

I cursed the guy in my mind, blaming him for 99% of the reason I had to hear this.

And I silently swore at the jerk who had to say it to my face.

When I raised an eyebrow, his mocking smile deepened.

“By the way, we changed a lot of the choreography for your song. After watching your dance video, it was so dull that it wasn’t even enjoyable to watch.”

Of course, it had to be. We had to create choreography that Seo Ye-hyun, with his two left feet, could learn in just a week.

No matter what he said about the choreography, as long as he wasn’t criticizing the song, it didn’t faze me at all.

Naturally, because Kim Do-bin made the choreography, but I made the song.

“Sure, you worked hard. I’m looking forward to the circus. It wasn’t a song made for a circus, though.”

I responded with a crooked smile of my own. His eyes twitched at my sarcasm.

But I didn’t care and threw his mockery right back at him.

“Oh, by the way, I also had to change a lot of your song. It was so dull that it wasn’t even enjoyable to listen to.”

I gave his shoulder a light tap and walked past him.

That’s what you get for messing with me.

It was late December, when sparkling neon decorations adorned the trees and carols began to echo through the streets.

A notification popped up on Kim Mo-yang’s phone. It was a “FROM” message from Yoon Eden, who checked in with more than two lines of text at least four times a week.

[From. Eden]

Daydream, how have you been? Since Christmas is approaching, we’ve prepared a surprise gift. The gift will be revealed on Christmas Eve through the official REVE YouTube channel, so please look forward to it.

We’ve also been working hard on the upcoming music festival performances, so stay tuned.

-OMG, what could it be? If it’s on YouTube, is it a music video? Or a new song?

-How long has it been since I last saw my babies? I already miss them so much…

-Eden, make sure to dress warmly! You don’t want to catch a cold.

It was pretty obvious what could be uploaded on the YouTube channel on Christmas Eve.

Since they were in the middle of filming a reality show, it was likely a fan song music video in celebration of Christmas.

They’d probably release the music video on Christmas Eve, and then on Christmas Day, the reality show would air with the making-of footage and behind-the-scenes content.

After 10 years of K-pop fandom, making predictions like this was second nature.

But even if the gift was predictable, the anticipation was still there.

Finally, the much-awaited Christmas Eve arrived.

At noon, a new video was uploaded to REVE’s official YouTube channel.

The thumbnail showed the five members gathered in front of a Christmas tree, dressed in animal onesies.

As soon as the video started, the sound of a music box playing a carol melody accompanied the first scene of Eden lifting a bowl of whipped cream and inspecting it.

Eden, who was handed a whisk by Jae-hee, started whisking diligently, but as soon as he tried to spread the cream on the sheet, it slid off, making him turn to Jae-hee in surprise.

Ha Jun’s voice adorned the intro as the camera shifted to show him making canapés, wearing an apron.

He carefully placed ham and cheese on crackers, topped them with cherry tomato halves, or laid down chopped lettuce and spooned some seasoned tuna on top, creating some appetizing canapés.

The scene transitioned to Ye-hyun, who was busy washing basil leaves.

He chopped tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, carefully arranging them on a plate, then topped them with basil leaves and drizzled balsamic vinegar over it, finishing the Caprese salad. He smiled sweetly at the camera as he presented the dish.

Do-bin then appeared, matching his part.

After putting a turkey into the oven and pressing a button, Dobin slipped on oven mitts and pulled out a perfectly roasted turkey.

The chorus was highlighted by Jae-hee’s vocals.

As if claiming his part, Jae-hee was seen chopping strawberries.

Uh…?

Eden sighed, took the knife from Jae-hee’s hand, and the two switched roles.

After a brief exchange, they mixed the chopped strawberries into the whipped cream.

The resulting cake, covered with bits of strawberry, looked quite bizarre.

As Ye-hyun and Do-bin commented on the strawberry cake, Eden, with a slightly irritated smile, fed Do-bin a forkful of the cake.

The scene ended with Jae-hee and Do-bin feeding each other canapés, and Eden’s rap led the transition from the kitchen to a room with a giant Christmas tree.

The REVE members, dressed in animal onesies that matched their images, started decorating the Christmas tree.

With every move they made, the tails on their onesies wiggled.

Eden, dressed as a black cat, tapped the ornaments like he was a real cat.

The tallest member, Ha Jun, placed the star on top of the Christmas tree, and the scene faded out, showing the five members lying in a huddle under blankets and the five gift boxes placed under the Christmas tree.

The background was dark, likely meant to represent the middle of the night.

Eden was the first to sneak out of bed, quietly tiptoeing to the Christmas tree and carefully placing a gift box beside Ye-hyun’s pillow.

Then, he returned to his spot as if nothing had happened.

Ha-Jun left a gift for Jae-hee, Ye-hyun for Do-bin, Jae-hee for Eden, and Do-bin for Ha-Jun. Once everyone had delivered their gifts, the lights turned on brightly.

The members pretended to wake up, stretching exaggeratedly.

The camera then showed each member hugging their gift box and opening it one by one.

The contents of the gift boxes were not revealed.

In the second verse’s chorus, the REVE members performed a simple dance routine in front of the Christmas tree. The camera also captured individual shots of each member, either throwing or blowing snow from their cupped hands.

The music video ended with a group shot of the REVE members huddled together on the bed.

-OMG, what was that cake? It looked like something straight out of a nightmare!

└Dobin didn’t seem like he wanted to eat it, but he did because Eden fed him. ㅠㅠ

└I wonder how it tasted. I’ll have to ask during the live stream.

-Why is our hamster dressed as a flying squirrel? And is Eden supposed to be a jaguar?

└It’s an optical illusion that makes the cat onesie look like a jaguar.

└Let’s call this the “Eden Effect.”

-The canapés and Caprese salad looked delicious. The only thing I wouldn’t want to eat was the cake, even though it was supposed to be the main dish…

└Why did they chop the strawberries, and why did they mix them into the whipped cream to create a nightmare strawberry cake?

└Neither of them is cut out for cooking.

-Aren’t those the gift boxes from the official release? They said the members exchanged Christmas presents!

-I’m so glad they didn’t dress them in those sponge lab coats again, trying to portray them as snow fairies.

└I’m still haunted by the nightmares of “My Universe.”

-The song is soothing, perfect for a carol, and the music video is well-made too.

-When are the behind-the-scenes or making-of videos coming out?

└They’ll probably release it on “Mydol.” Since it airs on Christmas, I’m pretty sure that’s when they’ll drop it.

An hour after the music video was uploaded to the official YouTube channel, Jae-hee’s “From” message was posted.

[From. Jae-Hee]

Merry Christmas in advance, my Daydreams! How’s your Christmas Eve going? I heard it’s going to snow tomorrow, making it a white Christmas for the first time in two years! Of course, we’ll be stuck in Gocheok Dome and won’t get to enjoy it… ㅎㅎ But I’m still looking forward to meeting you all this way☺

Did you like the surprise we prepared? You can catch the recording studio behind-the-scenes, music video making film, and gift reveal behind-the-scenes on tomorrow’s broadcast of <Mydol Observation Camera – REVE Edition>, so please look forward to it!

Oh, and Eden wanted me to tell you that he wrote and composed the song while thinking of you, Daydreams.

So, Merry Christmas!

-Jae-hee, Merry Christmas! It was the best gift ever!

-OMG, I didn’t realize Eden wrote and composed the song.

-Jae-hee, tell Eden the song is amazing and it’s the best Christmas carol ever!

-I can’t believe the music awards and the reality show are airing at the same time.

-Wow, I didn’t expect “Mydol” to pull out the big guns. How can I not watch the recording studio behind-the-scenes, the music video making film, and the gift reveal behind-the-scenes?

I just realized that the author doesn’t seem to like writing the songs’ lyrics? Or maybe because this is not a main song? 🤔
