I Thought It Was a Common Transmigration

CHAPTER 106

“To Renan, I may seem like a person who betrays without knowing the kindness of his parents and family.”

“No. To be honest, I think you are a person who has the courage to turn your back on your family. How many women are treated like tools because they lack that courage? That is wrong.”

If she hadn’t met Killian first, she would have liked Renan. He was a sincere man who spoke kind words with an expressionless face. Although he had less impact than the male lead and sub-male lead, he was a great person to marry and live with!

“…Renan is a good person.”

“This is my first time receiving such an evaluation.”

“That’s because other people don’t know Renan’s true nature. I really hope he can hook up with a nice lady.”

“Thank you for thinking so.”

Renan thanked her indifferently, without showing any signs of embarrassment. As she was sorting out the documents for the Ryzen territory again, she fell in love with the idea of Killian and her ruling Ryzen together. It was such a thrilling imagination that she couldn’t help but smile.

* * *

Tricia, where the territorial war was taking place, was an area sandwiched between Ravena, the Ludwig family’s territory, and Pizarro, the Rigelhof family’s territory. The lord of Tricia, who had to surrender his territory to the battlefield for the crime of joining the Rigelhof family, was bleeding dry, but unfortunately for him, the battle was tilted towards the Ludwig family from the beginning.

“This time, an armored cavalry corps and an infantry division appeared from behind Mount Roseto and flanked our troops, resulting in a heavy defeat.”

“Duke Ludwig is probably the best in the empire when it comes to warfare.”

“Cliff Ludwig and Killian Ludwig were knights who surpassed their father. They are so bold that it is hard to believe they have never fought a war.”

As despairing reports came in one after another, a gloomy atmosphere hung over the camp of Count Rigelhof. Count Rigelhof’s hair, which was always neatly trimmed, was disheveled and a few strands hung between his frowning eyebrows.

“Damn you guys. You’ve been completely fooling us all this time! “Is this the way you treat your allies?”

Count Rigelhof was indignant at the fact that Duke Ludwig had been hiding their firepower while he had also been deceiving them. Even though he should be blaming himself for being confident that he fully understood the current state of Duke Ludwig before starting the territorial war. Shane was equally surprised. He had always disapproved of Cliff, who was just lucky enough to become the heir to the dukedom, and he believed that there was no difference between him and Cliff. However, the Cliff they encountered in the territory battle was truly a monster. The rumor that he resembled the previous Duke Ludwig, who led the war against the Kingdom of Janok to victory, did not seem to be false.

‘Damn it, damn it, damn it!’

It was not a pleasant experience at all to realize the gap between myself and Cliff as the days passed. Even Cliff’s younger brother Killian was far superior to Shane. In particular, in a recent battle, the troops guarding Shane’s front collapsed under Killian’s horse’s hooves.

“This is Edith’s brother? I can’t believe it.”

Killian’s disdainful voice, right in front of him, still lingered in his ears like a nightmare.

‘Insolent guys…! I’ll do whatever it takes to bring you guys to your knees!’

Shane gritted his teeth with Count Rigelhof. And just then a letter from Sophia arrived.

[It looks like Lady Edith has no intention of cooperating until the end. I think it would be better to trust that unidentified helper.]

His Excellency the Archduke Langston has completed preparations for his big move in the capital. The imperial family would soon fall into the hands of His Excellency the Archduke Langston, so he asked them to hold on just a little longer. After reading the letter, Count Rigelhof’s eyes glowed sinisterly.

“It looks like there is nothing more we can find out about the helpers within the Ludwig family.”

“It seems like that. Duncan has also been kicked out, so it is even more difficult to determine his identity.”

They were still worried about an unidentified person who had contacted them shortly before declaring territory war, offering to help them. Duncan, the spy planted in the Ludwig family, was discovered as soon as the Rigelhof family declared a territorial war, and was severely beaten and kicked out. It was as if they already knew his identity. Even Edith had rejected the last offer, so while he was wondering what to do, a secret letter suddenly arrived.

[I am a person who works at Duke Ludwig’s residence. If you are trying to take down Duke Ludwig, I would like to add a little bit of my help. I can’t reveal my identity, but it’s probably better for you to trust me than to trust your daughter.]

Since he received such a letter, he was initially suspicious of its identity. But the other person seemed sincere. He sent a detailed report of the remaining troops and number of users to the Ludwig family, and said he would also install a sleeping scent and a door lock prevention device. Although it was said that the anti-lock device was discovered and removed by someone on the Ludwig family.

“Your Excellency the Archduke Langston is ready, so we can’t put off work any longer. I have no choice but to trust the interest.”

“All right. Then I will go up to the capital under the cover of darkness tonight.”

“I get it. You must never fail, understand?”

“Don’t worry!”

Shane kept it a secret from his knights and secretly headed to the capital that night, accompanied by only his closest associates. Unlike the anxious and gloomy Rigelhof camp, the Ludwig camp had a relaxed atmosphere.

“Thank you for your hard work today.”

“Is it even worth the trouble? They’re so bad it’s starting to get boring.”

“Don’t let your guard down.”

“Yes! All right.”

After praising the knights under his command and returning to his barracks, Cliff took off his heavy armor and lightly warmed up. Then he held his breath, looked around to see if anyone was there, and swept his hand under his bed. Then he took out the envelope hanging at his fingertips.

“You arrived safely.”

It was an envelope containing a report from an investigator hired by Cliff and a letter from Lise. Cliff opened Lise’s letter first.

[I miss you Cliff,

How are you? No matter how good the news about the war is, I feel uneasy. You’re really not hurt, right? I always wish you good health and victory.

The mansion is peaceful. The Duchess leads the ducal family resolutely, and the butler and knight commander do not neglect the management and defense of the mansion. Edith and I check the mansion’s doors every night.

When I first encountered Edith, I was a little surprised because it was unexpected, but now it’s a daily occurrence. Edith seems to be very anxious, so in addition to locking down the door, she goes around the mansion to check if there is anything strange.]

After reading Rize’s letter, Cliff immediately opened the investigator’s report.

[Circumstances were captured that Sophia, who was Shane Rigelhoff’s closest associate and Edith Rigelhoff’s maid, signed a contract with a mercenary unit under an assumed name. She appears to be moving within the capital, and it is assumed that Shane Rigelhoff will step forward to lead the mercenary group. There are also suspicious movements on the part of Archduke Langston. The target is the imperial palace.]

“For some reason, I said I couldn’t see Shane since the day before yesterday.”

Cliff put two letters in his arms and secretly visited Duke Ludwig’s barracks late at night. The Duke had contacted Cliff in advance to say he would come to him, so he turned down the brightness of the lamp and waited for Cliff.

“What’s going on, Cliff?”

“First, look at this.”

Cliff first showed the investigator’s report to the Duke. When the Duke saw the report that Shane was plotting something, his eyes quickly turned sinister.

“Do you think this mercenary unit will outnumber the mansion’s defense personnel?”

“Shane isn’t exactly stupid either, so she probably signed up a fairly large mercenary force, 50 at best. There are a total of 70 knights left in the mansion, and there are quite a few users, so they should be able to stop them… But if there are collaborators inside the mansion, it’s a different story.”

Cliff also handed the letter he received from Lise to the Duke.

“Lise doesn’t seem to be suspicious, but isn’t Edith a little strange? The part about her wandering around the mansion.”

“It sure is…”

“It looks like they are trying to hit the mansion.”

The Duke gritted his teeth at Cliff’s guess.

“Filthy things. You don’t know the slightest bit about honor as a nobleman, and you are going to act like a pack of wild dogs.”

“It was wrong for the iron ore distribution rights to fall into the hands of such people.”

The Duke of Ludwig, who originally did not have a very good relationship with the Rigelhof family, had been keeping an eye on the Rigelhof family ever since they obtained the rights to distribute iron ore from the Rigelhof family. He deliberately treated them as allies, kept them close by and monitored them, and cleverly manipulated the forces around them to prevent them from abusing their power. Despite this, the Rigelhof family was successful in every investment they made and amassed an enormous amount of wealth.

“Edith contributed greatly to the growth of the Rigelhof family.”

“Their investment was successful because it was all thanks to the information Edith received.”

“Do you know how I felt when I pushed my already worn-out child, who was Killian’s bride, in front of him? I probably won’t be able to erase that guilt until I die. Still, it’s spilled water. We tried to accept that child, but she betrayed us like this…”

Cliff didn’t bother to mention that Killian was surprisingly getting along well with Edith. He was the one who had to be defeated anyway, and his father’s decision should not have been shaken.

I am beginning to be really annoyed and Cliff and the Duke. Are their brains just filled with air? How is it more suspicious for Edith to be controlling the door and telling Lise about it than Lise controlling the doors?!? After the signs that Lise tried to let Edith be alone with her stalker and all that they still don’t suspect Lise? Dumb A**es the two of them.
Thank you for translating this story 🙂

      i know rite!

  2. Yunie Yun says:

I don’t even have the words, the duke it’s been like I don’t know how many chapters we see that Edith is just this close to dying and yet he still has the audacity to accuse Edith

    1. Eternity4Ever says:

      OMG YES

  3. Kohl says:

Aaahhh I am so endlessly frustrated

  4. Taya says:

Oh god, are they blind? I’m so anoyed with Cliff and the Duke right now. But what is more outragous is that they keep Killian out of it!

    1. Mphazi Nambao says:

Yeah, why is Killian treated like an after thought by them? His father didn’t consult him on anything!

    2. It’s not a surprise the Duke ans cliff think this way, it has been that way since the beginning but edith isn’t handling this properly. She has Anna, renan, and the duchess. She could have shown the letter to killian before he left or even showed the letter to the three people who at least have some sort of good feeling for her but she keeps to herself. Honestly, it’s a bad move but I guess it is the only way she can beat the 3rd condition. I guess things will be very bad for her from now on.

      1. nashiralibrae says:

I agree. Or she could have talked to the Dutchess atleast. Actually, some of her actions are quite irritating like the things she said to Layla about the things she will get if she ever got divorce, though it’s just the facts. And some other things. But other than that, i love her.

  5. Innerchildz says:

Edith can literally breathe and these dumbasses will find her suspicious, I can’t

  6. Sophtt says:

i’m pulling my hair out with anxiety…thanks for the translation anyway rjr T_T

  7. Eru says:

Aaaaa, looks like the execution plot point will still almost(?) happen ;;; Please let the new role as lead help her pspsps

  8. Strawrabbi says:

The stupid that Cliff and the Duke are sprouting is really grinding my gears. I wonder if they’re under the book/author’s control without how much they’re overlooking- like how the duchess is. They’re suppose to be smart and, I do expect, to some extent they don’t want to admit Lise is doing wrong but it’s getting ridiculous now…

  9. Lady Godiva says:

The Duke and Cliff must look stupid for suspecting Edith but since they are still controlled by the flow of the original story which is the Ludwig mansion being attcked and Edith with the rest of her family defeated and executed episodes, Cliff and the Duke can not veer off from the author’s power. Unlike killian who is already zero-influence from the author. Edith, on the other hand cannot reveal the letter to anybody because it is a violation of her limitations. She will be immobilized or paralyzed, like the previous times, if she had thoughts of showing the letter to anyone. Same with the door anti-lock device. We are getting near to the most heart-breaking parts so prepare your hankies.

    1. Bubbly_BingeReaderRN says:

I totally forgot about those damn limitations…

      1. Lady Godiva says:

Further along the novel, Cliff will seriously suffer from these limitations set by Lize, too.

  10. Potatatat says:

What if cliff was the author? And he’s manipulating Lise?

  11. Anthon says:

Renan beloved! He’s literally the best oh my god she even thinks that she would’ve liked him if she meet him first 😭😭😭😭😭
