Postscript (Author’s End Note)
If death is also a part of life,
Then my care for you exists in every part of my life.
You must know that I love you, to the brink of life and death.
When caring for you becomes an instinct,
Even if all I have left is something animalistic.
The reason for writing this is rather strange.
I just suddenly remembered a British show I watched before, In the Flesh. I couldn’t finish it at the time, but I found it still sitting in my cloud storage. So I decided to watch it again, just so I can delete it and free up some space.
It’s interesting to think about how perspectives shift.
Apocalyptic themes are always present, especially with zombie genres being so common. In such settings, the focus naturally becomes about how humans survive, how they survive like humans, maintaining humanity and rationality, not allowing the environment to consume them.
Of course, there’s the immensely popular American series The Walking Dead. But Warm Bodies and In the Flesh take a different angle: they can be cured. Maybe through some internal force, or maybe through an external one.
This suddenly reminded me of a Hong Kong movie I watched long ago, one that left a lasting impression on my young mind.
The film was Bio Zombie, and I was quite sad after watching it. At that age, I still believed the ending would be about surviving and escaping, but instead, after all their efforts, the two main characters still turned into zombies.
When I first started writing this, I thought the ending would involve one of them eating the other, and then walking around like the living dead, maybe eventually getting shot by humans one day.
But in the end, I decided not to go that route.
I still believe in this saying: People aren’t born unable to love—love is an instinct.
Since this story draws from Warm Bodies, I couldn’t logically provide an absolutely safe place for them. But at least, I wanted them to be okay.
So I left the ending open.
The future holds so many uncertainties.
But you’re still alive, and I’m alive too.
You see, after the rain, the sun will still appear.
onee-chan:
Its finally done🎉
This concludes this novel, this postscript definitely let us all see the perspective of the author when writing this, she left us with an open ending, something we can interpret freely, yet still filled with a sense of hope.
I’m not a sentimental person, I read this novel one night and also finished it on the same night. Its such a quick read but it still left some impression in my mind. I don’t know about you, but the ending left a kind of bitter taste. I’m not unsatisfied but I just feels like it would be so hard for them in that kind of troubled world, I just wants them to feel happy. Maybe the world won’t get better, but I hope they can realize their dream of living happily together on an isolated island, far from all the chaos, until the day they die in each others arms.
If you’ve come this far, surely you have your own sentiments or just your two cents about this novel. Whether you dislike or love this novel, please write or just rate this novel on novel updates.
