There Are No Bad Military Dogs

Chapter 49

What Yang Jun-tae couldn’t forget even more was the fact that after clearing out all the infected around the shelter and wrapping things up, Ahyeon returned as if she were going home after completing a task. She had hung up those who had underestimated her on the shelter walls like trophies.

Those who had subtly looked down on Ahyeon found themselves hanging by their underwear in the biting cold of winter wind.

Everyone was appalled, having lowered their guard due to Min Ahyeon’s slim build and somewhat attractive appearance. From then on, they not only learned not to judge people solely by looks or hold prejudices. At the same time, they trembled in fear of Ahyeon, another terror they discovered.

‘But the problem is…’

Shamefully, among them was Yang Jun-tae himself. He was terrified when he saw his subordinates hanging, so he didn’t run away from the city hall. Instead, he agreed with everything Ahyeon said. When she said to bring ammunition, when she said to take the car, when she demanded supplies, he just complied, out of fear.

No, how could anyone refuse when she stared at them with those wide-open eyes, filled with menace…

“Let’s be reasonable, shall we?”

“Ey, you can do this much for me, can’t you?”

For me… Since when were they so familiar…? Yang Jun-tae wanted to say that, but couldn’t out of fear of Min Ahyeon. In any case, her extreme viciousness and the humiliation he suffered were deeply etched into Yang Jun-tae’s soul.

From then on, to Yang Jun-tae, Min Ahyeon truly became nothing short of his worst living nightmare.

He didn’t want to fear a girl much younger than himself, but Yang Jun-tae was terrified of Min Ahyeon.

After long contemplation, Yang Jun-tae forced open his parched throat, which had no saliva left to swallow, and stammered.

“I-It’s just a habit of mine to be tense.”

Haha, his dry, cracked voice sounded pathetic.

“So tell me before I get even more scared. What’s going on? Yes?”

By now, Yang Jun-tae was not just wiping his damp palms on his thighs, but furiously rubbing his hands together like flies.

In contrast, Min Ahyeon just shrugged as if she had come for something trivial.

To someone unaware of Min Ahyeon’s unpleasant nature, her casual demeanor could make it seem like she was just visiting to catch up, no different from usual.

“It’s really not a big deal.”

However, contrary to her laid-back opening, her follow-up words were enough to send Yang Jun-tae’s consciousness drifting into the far reaches of space.

“I just want to get information on the infected.”

Just…information on the infected…? Yang Jun-tae blinked rapidly. His previously sluggish pace quickly accelerated to a frenzied shutter-like speed.

“…What? Information on the infected, what?!”

Regaining his wits, Yang Jun-tae stood up in shock. But Min Ahyeon remained nonchalant as ever.

“Yes, information on the infected. Ah, you must also have data on the mutated infected, right? That too.”

Yang Jun-tae tried to deny reality, but to no avail. Min Ahyeon’s shameless expression overflowed with realism.

‘…Is she out of her mind?’

Never in his life had Yang Jun-tae wanted to vent his true feelings so badly. But life was truly precious, and dignity even more so. Barely swallowing the words that almost spilled out, Yang Jun-tae forced an awkward smile and calmly spoke.

“That…those are records we painstakingly collected through real hardship and struggle.”

Yeah, I’m sure you did. Must have been a real pain in the ass.”

Her tone was sympathetic, but the content was anything but.

Yet Yang Jun-tae did not take offense at her mocking attitude towards the guards.

“Well, we really did have such a hard time gathering that…We’re using it to trade with Pohang right now?”

“Ah, is that so?”

“Yes. Exactly. So you understand just how precious it is, even a lifeline, right?”

Yang Jun-tae looked at Ahyeon with earnestness, but,

“I am well aware.”

It seemed like the message didn’t get through.

Yang Jun-tae inwardly swallowed a string of curses as he wiped his sweaty brow with his damp palm.

Information about the infected, such as the number of infected and the size of clusters in each area, had a significant value that could be used as leverage in trade with neighboring regions. Many shelters in various areas were surviving thanks to this, especially in isolated places like Gangwon, where having information from nearby cities was highly valuable.

Thanks to this, Yang Jun-tae could afford a new leather sofa, a carpet, and even mixed coffee. And he could buy weapons, and uh, maybe even find a way to get water. Maybe even poke around the people at the base a bit! But still!

‘She’s demanding that data so openly?’

And from someone from Seoul?  Has she really lost it?

No matter how hard he tried to think positively, all Yang Jun-tae could think was that Min Ahyeon was crazy.

He already knew she was nuts, but he didn’t realize she was this conscienceless.

Yang Jun-tae was speechless, frozen like a thinking statue. Min Ahyeon stared intently at him, always noticing one thing.

‘He resembles a catfish.’

The bald head, thin mustache, plump face.

He might just live if tossed in water… As Ahyeon had that thought, she snapped back to her senses. Gazing at the catfish-like Yang Jun-tae, she spoke slowly.

“The data you provide will be prohibited from external leaks. I promise it will only be for our viewing.”

The former was obvious. Still holding his forehead, Yang Jun-tae, who was still pondering Min Ahyeon’s words, raised his head sharply.

“We?”

Was Min Ahyeon not alone?

Where, where from? Is it related to Seoul? Yang Jun-tae’s face turned pale.

“Oh, yes.”

As Yang Jun-tae looked at Min Ahyeon nodding leisurely, he soon recalled Yongchul’s smug face. Could it be the weird informant she always carried around?

“Yongcheol? Are you talking about that guy?”

“His name isn’t Yongcheol.”

“Huh? Then what is it?”

“D.I. Dragon Iron.”

Yongcheol-ah, this sister has come all this way just to announce your name. What a beautiful sight. Aren’t you truly grateful?

Ahyeon chuckled to herself at the thought, while in contrast, Yang Jun-tae looked dumbfounded.

“You’re… joking, right?”

But Ahyeon remained nonchalant.

“No joke, it’s real. That’s his rap name.”

Yang Jun-tae frowned.

“But wasn’t he working as a developer in Pangyo before?”

“He started rapping after getting fed up while developing in Pangyo, and even made that his rap name. He has a mixtape, want to listen?”

“No! No need!”

He felt he could guess without listening. It would be either shouting “mother f*cker” or “love and peace”, one of the two. Ah, such useless information. Yang Jun-tae shook his head.

“Anyway, so? Who are you talking about? Who will you be sharing the information with?”

In response to Yang Jun-tae’s question Ahyeon casually replied as if she were picking aloe vera from a juice.

“No, I came with General Shin Hae-jun.”

“…What?”

For a moment, Yang Jun-tae muttered to himself, wondering if he had reached the age where he needed a hearing aid. After rapping, now it’s Shin Hae-jun. Ha, ridiculous… Huh? Did I, just now, hear something…?

Yang Jun-tae blinked his eyes wide.

“Who… Who did you come with…?”

He now vehemently denies the reality he could not refute earlier. However, Min Ahyeon, who lives solely in the present reality, shows no mercy.

“Brigadier General Shin Hae-jun.”

Fuck. Damn it!

Yang Jun-tae, who rose from his seat in a flash, felt something explode at the back of his neck for a moment. Intense dizziness that made the mayor’s office spin was a bonus. Because of this, Yang Jun-tae collapsed as if crumbling, and the expensive sofa, unable to bear his weight, toppled backward with a thud.

“Aargh!”

Tsk tsk. The sofa’s going to get scratched.

Ahyeon clicked her tongue, more concerned about the sofa than Yang Jun-tae. In fact, wasn’t Yang Jun-tae’s behavior like a funny one-man show?

Nevertheless, only Min Ahyeon’s voice echoed in Yang Jun-tae’s ears.

‘Shin Hae-jun, Brigadier General Shin Hae-jun, General Shin, that bastard!’

Eventually losing his grip on his sanity, Yang Jun-tae abruptly stood up and yelled loudly.

“Get out! Get the hell out, all of you!”

With nothing in sight now, Yang Jun-tae overcame his fear.
