TVWRL Chapter 57

Endless thoughts swirled in my mind, and before I knew it, we had arrived at the Emperor’s palace.

“Adeline.”

“Yes?”

I took llias’s outstretched hand without hesitation. The hand of a comrade ready for battle felt reassuring.

We walked down the long corridor of the emperor’s palace toward the dining room.

On the long table inside the dining room, a feast of delicacies was laid out. Since it was a meal prepared by the emperor’s palace, there was no sign of carelessness. In fact, it was clear that great effort had been put into the preparations.

‘So, is it the father-in-law’s love for the daughter-in-law here too?’

Of course, I knew it wasn’t because of me.

Though I couldn’t show it, I felt the warmth of a father’s heart toward his son.

In any case, thanks to the excuse of marriage, this dinner was more splendid than the wedding, as I didn’t have to worry about Empress Sierra.

After sitting down and waiting for a moment, Emperor Aust, Empress Sierra, and Aiden entered.

Aiden should have arrived before us, but it seemed he had no intention of observing any etiquette. Or perhaps he didn’t want to wait for a commoner like me.

“Sit.”

At Emperor Aust’s words, everyone took their seats. Behind us, several attendants stood ready to serve.

As we sat down, the attendants came over and poured white wine into our glasses.

“Cheers to the marriage of llias and Adeline.”

Once Emperor Aust’s toast concluded, llias, Empress Sierra, Aiden, and I drank our wine and began the meal.

Throughout the meal, a quiet atmosphere prevailed.

I had felt it before, but the customs of the royal family were truly extraordinary.

Even Aiden, whom I usually thought was far from polite, displayed quiet and refined dining etiquette.

While we were waiting for dessert, Emperor Aust’s voice echoed in the dining room.

“Is it to your taste, Adeline?”

“Yes, Your Majesty, it’s very delicious.”

At that moment, Aiden sneered at me as if talking to himself.

“A commoner suddenly eating rich food might get sick, don’t you think?”

Aiden looked at me with one corner of his mouth twisted in a displeased manner.

llias seemed ready to step in, but I pressed his hand down.

When llias’s puzzled gaze turned toward me, I slightly shook my head. Of course, I didn’t stop him just to endure it blindly.

I wanted to say something because I couldn’t hold back my anger.

How unseemly would it be for both of us to step in over such matters?

I had no intention of backing down against Aiden from the start.

“I’m not worried about getting sick from the food, but it seems I might get sick from the people. I tend to be more selective about people than food.”

At my words, Aiden flared up and shouted.

“What did you just say? A commoner like you?”

“Aiden.”

Emperor Aust sternly called his name, but Aiden wore an aggrieved expression instead.

“Father! Look at how that commoner is speaking. She said I might make her sick!”

“Can’t you stop? She is my daughter-in-law and your sister-in-law. Do you not realize that looking down on her is like spitting in your own face?”

As the emotions between the two escalated, Empress Sierra stepped in to mediate.

“Your Majesty, please calm down. I will talk to Aiden.”

Emperor Aust wore a displeased expression. Empress Sierra glanced at me and said,

“This is why it’s important for people to get along. What is this on the very first meal?”

I smiled brightly at Empress Sierra.

“Your Majesty, were you speaking to me just now? If so, I partially agree and partially disagree with your words.”

Empress Sierra’s face flushed, as if she hadn’t expected me to respond.

“What did you just say?”

I answered gracefully.

“That’s right. This trouble didn’t arise because the wrong person came in, but rather because of the person inside. Besides, I was taught that it’s against etiquette to interrupt a conversation with the Emperor.”

Empress Sierra looked at me with a stunned expression.

“How audacious.”

I smiled and said,

“Audacious, Your Majesty? No matter how much blood ties me to Prince Aiden, it’s hurtful to be treated this way. You are the mother of Prince Aiden, but are you not also the mother of the Empire? I hope you can show the broad-mindedness and dignity of a mother of the Empire.”

At my words, Empress Sierra’s face took on a frustrated look as if something was stuck in her throat.

I disregarded her expression and turned my gaze to Aiden.

“Prince Aiden, I am now a member of the royal family like you. So, I hope you will show proper etiquette from now on. I have no intention of respecting someone who does not respect me. And perhaps because I come from a commoner background, I cannot endure unpleasant situations with the grace of a noble. Therefore, if you do not want to be looked down upon by a commoner-born princess in front of many people, please conduct yourself appropriately.”

“Hey! You!”

Aiden was so furious that he couldn’t continue speaking.

“Oh! If you’re confused about etiquette, you’re welcome to take lessons with me. I think I might do better, though.”

As I smiled brightly, Aiden’s face turned bright red.

Emperor Aust rubbed his forehead with a troubled expression, but he didn’t seem upset.

Of course, Aiden was glaring at me, trembling with a knife in his hand.

When llias looked at me with concern, I shrugged my shoulders.

I didn’t want to bow down to the Empress from the start. I had to show someone with such a domineering personality what K-style temperament looks like.

Empress Sierra spoke coldly, her expression hardened.

“You’ve been pretending to be obedient all this time, and now you’re finally revealing your vulgar commoner nature?”

“Well, I am a commoner, but I do not agree with the notion that I am vulgar. If I admit to being vulgar, then Prince Aiden would be considered inferior to a commoner. And now that I am part of the family, it’s quite hurtful to express it as if I’m still just a commoner, Mother. Back then, I was a commoner lover meeting the royal elders, but now that I’m part of the royal family, I’m just trying to maintain a confident attitude everywhere. Don’t you find it lovely that I’ve studied etiquette so hard, Mother?”

Empress Sierra’s gaze grew increasingly fierce.

“It bothers me when you call me ‘Mother.’ How can you so easily use that term? Even llias never did.”

I widened my eyes to appear innocent.

“I don’t have parents, so I wanted to try using the titles ‘Mother’ and ‘Father.’ If you dislike it, should I start calling you ‘stepmother’? That feels a bit distant, so I called you ‘Mother,’ but if it doesn’t please you, I’ll call you ‘stepmother’ from now on.”

In the end, Empress Sierra grabbed the back of her neck and looked at Emperor Aust.

“Your Majesty.”

“Let’s stop this and focus on the meal. This is a gathering to welcome the princess consort.”

After that, no one spoke, and we all concentrated on the meal.

As soon as the meal was over, Empress Sierra and Prince Aiden left the dining room, while Emperor Aust looked at me with a gentle expression.

“I was very worried, but from now on, I won’t have to worry anymore.”

“I apologize. Please forgive my rudeness.”

“It’s alright. You are also a member of the royal family, so hold your head high and don’t feel inferior anywhere, anytime. I look forward to you taking good care of llias from now on.”

“Yes, Father. Don’t worry about the prince. I will take good care of him.”

“Hahaha.”

Emperor Aust laughed heartily without reservation, and llias, along with the attendants nearby, looked surprised.

“I really like my daughter-in-law.”

“I’m honored.”

“You must be tired, so go and rest.”

“Yes.”

We greeted him and left the imperial palace. Then, as if nothing had happened, we calmly and gracefully made our way to the prince’s palace.

As soon as we entered the prince’s palace, we burst into laughter without caring who started first. Of course, there were still eyes and ears of Empress Sierra here, but it didn’t matter.

The war had already begun.

“That was amazing. It felt so refreshing for a change, Adeline.”

I waved my hand dismissively.

“I just said what was necessary.”

As I said this coyly and our eyes met, the corners of our mouths twitched, and we ended up laughing loudly again.

The head attendant and the head maid approached us and spoke.

“You need to get ready, Princess Consort.”

Isn’t everything over now?

I followed with a puzzled expression, wondering what else needed to be prepared, and came upon a grand bathroom made of marble. Four maids were getting ready to assist with the bath.

I was slightly surprised, but since this was something a member of the royal family would do, I decided to accept it.

Above all, I was quite tired from the day, so it was nice to have someone wash me.

As I soaked in the warm and fragrant bathtub and received a scalp massage, my fatigue began to ease a bit. The maids attended to me with very gentle hands.

After washing up, I sat in a plush chair while the maids dried my hair and applied basic skincare products to my face.

My body gradually felt more relaxed.

Knock, knock.

As I nodded, the maid by the door opened it.

The head maid entered with three sets of pajamas and laid them down in front of me.

“I didn’t know which one you would like, so I prepared them at random.”

“Oh! Before that, I need to ask something. Where is Sarah?”

“She is receiving the necessary training as a maid.”

“When will she come as my serving maid?”

The head maid made a troubled expression.

I suspected that Empress Sierra might delay sending her as much as possible or might not send her at all to make things difficult for me.

“Please hurry as much as possible. It’s uncomfortable without the child who has been by my side for a long time.”

“I believe it would be more comfortable for you to have maids who have been in the palace for a long time.”

“Why are you changing my decision based on your thoughts? Are you my superior?”

“Yes?”

It seemed that they had no intention of sending Sarah to me.

“We will do our best.”

The head maid, supported by Empress Sierra, faced me confidently.

‘If this keeps up, I’ll have no choice but to revert to the old Adeline.’

After all, most of the people in the prince’s palace were Sierra’s supporters, so I planned to replace them anyway. Therefore, I wasn’t particularly worried about any mischief.

“How do you plan to accommodate me?”

I curled one side of my mouth into a cold smile.

The head maid looked at me with a flustered expression.

“I asked how you plan to accommodate me.”

“We have assigned maids who have spent a long time in the palace as your serving maids, Your Highness.”

“Didn’t you hear the rumors about me?”

“Yes?”

“If you don’t know, you’ll learn gradually.”

I leaned back as if sinking into the sofa and leisurely commanded the head maid.
