Part 2 – Episode 7
I shook her body urgently, and Bluebell, who leaned on me, unbuttoned her tightly fastened coat and let out a comfortable sigh.
“Whew.”
Huh?
“Haha… I’m sorry. I overate at a restaurant on my way here… my stomach almost burst.”
I got up and looked at Bluebell, who was tapping her stomach, with a bewildered gaze.
Well, as long as she was okay…
“…I didn’t expect you to be the last descendant of the Hawk Talon clan, Grandmother.”
“It’s quite common for the lineage of minority groups to be cut off. The people in our Hawks Clan have always been rather spirited and valiant regardless of gender, so a lot of us often ended up closing our eyes without leaving any children behind.”
The Spirited and Valiant Hawks Talon clan.
As soon as I heard those words, White came to mind. White, the rebel who infiltrated the tower to save Rue.
Although she was caught by me and used to cry with a runny nose, she was a very brave warrior, putting aside her young age.
“Grandmother, do you know White by any chance?”
“White?”
Bluebell’s eyes widened as soon as she heard the name.
“That, that name is… Cough!”
She was breathing so heavily it was as if she would throw up blood. Surprised, I immediately supported Bluebell.
“Grandmother!”
I looked at her urgently, and Bluebell, who ran to the window, spat beyond the window.
“Caw… Ptu!”
…What?
“I’m sorry, as I get older, I cough up phlegm all the time… Haha. That name is quite common. Which White are you referring to?”
I was just going to give her boiling water, but changed my mind and poured cold water to make it lukewarm before handing it to her.
“It’s alright, you don’t need to know.”
It was enough if my friend lived in my memory.
“Cough, cough. Thank you. I’ll drink it well.”
I explained to Bluebell the reasons why I ended up looking for her, while Bluebell, noisy as ever, sat in her chair.
The first of these reasons was Ash’s health, not his upbringing or education.
“Hmm. He is certainly worryingly small.”
“Yes. There are so few doctors who know about the Gray Hawk that it’s hard to seek advice.”
“That’s natural. The Gray Hawk is a very strong and intelligent beast, and it was treated as a divine creature in Aragald. Now that it’s almost extinct, it’s likely that only a few people have seen one. Ah… Perhaps there may be no one else left besides me.”
Bluebell, who looked at Ash with a dim light in her eyes, took something out of the bag she had brought and handed it to me.
“You’ve done well to come all this way to find me here. Please take this box, Daisy. The items inside are heirlooms that have been passed down through generations only to the greatest Druid of the Hawks clan.”
It was a dark brown wooden box that looked like it’d been around for a long time.
“Druid?”
“Haha. It’s the term we use to refer to the chief of our Hawks clan. Although I may not have any advice to offer regarding Ash’s condition, the knowledge of our ancestors contained within will surely be of help.”
The knowledge of the Druids.
I carefully pulled the wooden box, beautifully carved with the shape of a hawk, towards me. It was very heavy.
“To be able to find a valuable descendant to inherit the legacy of the Druid… it’s truly, cough, cough!”
Bluebell, who coughed so loudly that spit almost flew onto my face, looked at me with affectionate eyes.
“It’s truly… cough!”
Stop it. I’m not falling for it anymore.
“This old woman no longer has any regrets…”
For a moment, Bluebell’s eyes closed, and she seemed to lose control.
The moment her weakened body collapsed under the chair, I hurriedly pulled her up.
“Grandmother!”
Bluebell was quiet in my arms as if she had fallen asleep.
Yes.
She had fallen asleep.
“Khrr… Whew…”
Soon, the sound of her snoring spread loudly and resonantly, so much so that it wouldn’t be strange if it pierced the eardrums. Within that sound… I tasted a bitter sense of defeat that I had never felt before.
I lost.
I lost completely, right until the end.
Indeed… the elderly were tough to deal with.
On day 4 of living with Ash.
Bluebell left.
She hoped that I would become the last spiritual descendant of the Hawk Talon clan.
“Why are you asking me for something like that when you don’t even know what kind of person I am?”
“I can tell what kind of person you are just by looking at Ash. Our clan doesn’t hand over the Gray Hawk to just anyone. Cough. The fact that you received Ash’s egg means that, through some path, your bravery and goodness have been recognized by us. Cough, cough! Cough.”
Stop. Stop coughing!
The sense of defeat from yesterday is coming back!
Bluebell showed a comfortable smile to me, who was looking at her with wary eyes.
“…Now I can die without any regrets. I entrust you to take care of the Gray Haw and the legacy of the Druid, Daisy.”
After she left, I ran straight to the Druid’s box.
Click.
“Yes, Ash. You’re wondering what’s in here, aren’t you? I’m curious too.”
Remembering Bluebell’s advice, I turned the silver handle attached to the box to the right twice, to the left three times, and then to the right twice again.
Then.
Thud.
The box, which I opened slowly, contained various items that matched its weight.
“This is… a bracelet? Is it the chief’s bracelet worn by the Druids? It’s cool.”
“This wood looks like a cup. There’s no other reason it’d be this small.”
“Hmm? What’s this, a strange-shaped dagger?”
“Ah, this paper must be a certificate. It’s a list of what items are inside. Let’s see. This dagger is… a Neruto leaf-shaped short sword. How unique.”
“Alright, Alright. I’ll look properly. Hmm. This booklet is a compilation of portraits of past Druids, and the booklet below is… finally, something useful has come up. ‘Healthy Diet Recipes For Gray Hawks’!”
“But the most impressive thing by far is definitely this booklet. <The Gray Falcon, Always Healthy and Fine>. It details how you grow from an egg… what you eat, what you prefer, and what diseases you are vulnerable to, to the time of your funeral. This is it. With this, I can find out why you’re not growing. Druids are the best!”
“Hmm?”
“…Goodness.”
I looked down at the certificate with blinking eyes. If my eyes weren’t deceiving me, the name written here was clearly……
-Dian Cecht’s Grey Hawk Language Translator
-Dian Cecht’s Grey Hawk Vlog
What was a Vlog? No, that wasn’t what was important right now.
“Ash, it seems Dian left behind a Grey Falcon translator. It must be the Dian I know, right?”
Could it be that Dian Cecht’s legacy wasn’t seven but nine items? Pushing my doubts aside, I picked up the necklace with a label that read ‘translator’.
The shape of the glass sphere hanging from the sturdy leather strap seemed strangely familiar. It resembled the sphere embedded in the center of the <pretty useful old metal shield> used by the thief gang.
The only difference was that there were no magic springs or cogs inside. Perhaps because of this, no matter what I did, the translator wouldn’t work.
“Why is that?”
Curious, I examined the certificate again.
On the back of the certificate which had turned into a discolored yellow were writings in various handwriting styles. They appeared to be notes left by previous Druids.
-Writing about the life of a druid.
-The box is too old; I hope my successor will replace it.
-I didn’t replace it; but wouldn’t my successor do it?
-I have no money.
-I sold off the least important springs of the machine because I had no money. I’ll definitely get it back though.
-This time, I’m really going to get it back.
-This time, for sure.
A moment of waiting.
…
-They went out of stock.
Bang.
I slammed the table.
Daisy is weak with the elderly as always and the druids being gamblers is so funny to me poor dian
Also Dian Cecht’s gray hawk vlog made me laugh so hard lmao Dian Cecht is the og vlogger confirmed (remember he also left a video for Daisy as a farewell)
I’d like to thank my lovely friend Lilac who gave me the raws for this series! TYSM AGAIN LILAC MWAHHH
quick question for the readers: as you know, I’m prone to translating a whole bunch of chapters when I really get into the story, the problem is posting them. I thought to put them as advance chapters here, but there’s a limit to how many advance chapters we can upload… Should I make a patreon like other translators with access to advance chapters for a membership? Of course, I’ll keep the membership prices reasonable (probs 5$ -10$ for all available chapters).
So let me know your opinions on which I should go with: moondust advance chapters or patreon! you’ll have more ease with moondust probably since it’s on the site and you can gain free moondust by logging in and commenting, so I’m fine with keeping moodust too! ^^
Thank you Ami and Lilac!
Granny Bluebell is legendary! Makes sense, after all, she IS descendant of these legendary chiefs!
Haha, she lost until the end – poor Daisy. Hmmm, I guess I would vote for Moondust as it seems easier to keep things in house? I haven’t tried it yet so Ill go through the steps and comment later on.
