“Well, I’m not sure if I should say I got one over on her, but I didn’t do anything together with Lady Eskis. To put it bluntly, we approached things separately. It was more like that.”

“Then it means the two diamonds each delivered their blows in their own ways. I really like this season’s diamonds.”

Eustace, who had been unusually praising, looked puzzled. Meanwhile, Judith laughed and chimed in.

“To be honest, I really hated that person too. Always giving long speeches at social gatherings about how romance novels aren’t real literature, and then my head maid would nag me to read more pure literature. But I hate pure literature.”

“My valet was the same. Cause of I’m a man, he was noisy about me reading romance novels, telling me to maintain my dignity.”

“Hahaha… I unintentionally avenged you both.”

It seemed that even these young royals were frustrated by that old-fashioned person.

I wonder if that Countess knows that she has become the enemy of both the prince and princess.

“Besides, she was so biased. She attacked Letticia and lady Eskis but favored only to lady Wallace.”

“Well, it wasn’t favoritism. Lady Wallace just gave an answer that matched the Countess’s tastes. Of course, the Countess didn’t have anything nice to say about debutantes she didn’t like.”

“It was more than just not saying nice things. According to Lucinella, it was full of personal attacks. Is that true?”

“Well… I can’t deny it.”

Although Valerie was unprepared and gave answers that didn’t match the questioner’s preferences, Countess Finsbury’s response was full of personal attacks and insults.

That’s why Letticia got angry and retaliated.

“It’s scary. Why was she so eager to trample on the new nobility? Is it because she hates new things?”

“Who knows, she was pretty harsh on lady Eskis too.”

“Well, from Countess Finsbury’s perspective, she wouldn’t like lady Eskis.”

Eustace interjected. It might have been my imagination, but there was a hint of cynicism.

“She thought lady Wallace, whom she adored like a niece, would become a diamond, but suddenly lady Eskis from the west took that place. No wonder she couldn’t see it kindly. It must have been part of her venting her anger.”

“Oh, Countess Finsbury adored lady Wallace that much?”

“Yes, that’s what I heard. The speech Judith’s maid heard was at the Wallace Count’s banquet.”

This unexpected information made Letticia’s opinion of Countess Finsbury even lower.

‘What a pathetic person.’

Even if she privately regretted that the girl she adored didn’t become a diamond, did she have to demean debutantes half her age because of it?

As Letticia unknowingly shook her head, Eustace continued with an amused expression.

“Perhaps Countess Finsbury intended to knock down Letticia and lady Eskis to elevate lady Wallace. But Letticia isn’t someone who can be easily put down like that.”

“Your Highness, I think you’re overestimating me. What exactly have you heard about me….”

“Hmm? Only what Lenny occasionally says. Like how you insisted on not losing a horse-riding competition with Lenard, riding for four hours until Lenard got tired and deliberately lost, leading to a big fight?”

‘Lenny, I’m going to get you for this.’

I never expected my childhood black history, driven by excessive competitiveness, would reach the royals.

I intended to keep it a family secret, but I didn’t realize my taciturn sister had shared my embarrassing history with her childhood friends.

“I actually think it’s cool. I could never do something like that to my brothers. With big brother Eustace, maybe, but I wouldn’t have the courage to challenge big brother Matthias like that.”

“Well… siblings are all different, right? Hahaha.”

Letticia forced a laugh but decided to deal with Lenoa at home. The price for casually sharing her embarrassing history would be disturbing her alone time.

“It was impressive, though. When deciding with my mother the Empress on the praise to give the diamonds, that story came to mind. So I told her, and my mother the Empress found grand and impressive expressions like ‘goddess of the wind.’”

‘Your Majesty, please.’

If that nickname stuck, Letticia would be too embarrassed to show her face. Especially since she had used the excuse of building a goddess statue with Camilla, it was even more mortifying.

“Eventually, since you’re the countess’s daughter, it was decided to make you the Queen of Flowers to match the Queen of the Social World, but it would have been funny if you had been the Goddess of the Wind.”

“…I’m truly grateful for Her Majesty the Empress’s wise decision.”

Letticia sincerely wanted to bow her head in thanks to the Empress. If she had been called the Goddess of the Wind, she would have stormed into Lucinella, grabbed the editor by the neck, and demanded a new nickname.

“I wanted to tell my big brother about it too, but he’s been so busy lately that I didn’t have the chance.”

“Please don’t! Please, I beg you!”

Letticia, her face flushed, pleaded with Judith to stop. If Matthias heard about it and laughed at her, Letticia might go down in history as the assassin of the crown prince.

“Why? He might find it amusing.”

“Well, it’s quite an embarrassing memory for me personally, so I’d prefer it not to be spread around…”

“There’s no need to be embarrassed, Letticia! It’s humanizing and charming.”

Letticia couldn’t understand what was so humanizing about throwing a tantrum at her brother for not wanting to lose and then fighting because he let her win that time.

Fortunately, Eustace had more sense than his sister and noticed Letticia’s embarrassment, so he tried to stop Judith.

“Judith, let’s save that for later. For someone as perfect as our brother, it might not seem humanizing but rather a flaw. It’s better to keep pushing the diamond image for now.”

“What are you talking about, Eustace! Our brother doesn’t like ordinary noblewomen, so we need to show him something unique. Otherwise, she’ll be just like any other debutante.”

“If she’s too unique, it might not work out. Someone with as many requirements for a spouse as our brother needs to see that all those requirements can be met first.”

“…Excuse me, Your Highnesses, but why is this conversation heading in this direction?”

“Oh, sorry. We should have talked to Letticia first, but we got carried away.”

Eustace smiled apologetically.

“Unofficially speaking, Judith and I would like Letticia to become the crown princess. Although our parents haven’t said it explicitly, they clearly have a good opinion of you.”

Letticia felt like she wanted to collapse and cry out of hopelessness.

The idea of an arranged marriage pushed by her in-laws meant that even if Matthias didn’t like it, there was still a possibility of Letticia becoming the crown princess.

“Our brother is now 22, and not only our parents but others are starting to suggest he should get married soon. So he plans to participate in social gatherings more frequently this year. If you’re willing, we’d like to help you. What do you think?”

“…I don’t think His Highness sees me in any special way, so there’s no need to pursue something that seems unlikely, is there?”

Letticia tried to politely refuse, but Judith got excited.

“That’s because our brother feels uncomfortable with the debutantes in social circles! The previous diamonds would try to get close to him even while dancing the minuet, and he was disgusted by it.”

She’s quite curious about how he’s managed to get so close while dancing the minuet, which usually requires the partners to maintain a certain distance.

“Moreover, whenever he attends a ball, the debutantes swarm around him, and if he dances with any of them, they fight among themselves. That’s why he keeps his distance. It’s not your fault, Letticia, so don’t worry.”

Hearing this from his own family’s mouths, Letticia didn’t know what to say.

Matthias’s dislike for the women in social circles was first because he was tired of those who approached him solely for his status and looks.

Second, he was turned off by their behavior of fighting and backbiting among themselves.

Third, they were not substantial conversationalists.

While the third reason could be attributed to the fact that politics and economics, Matthias’s interests, weren’t taught in liberal arts classes, Letticia could sympathize with the first two reasons.

‘I also dislike those who approach me just for my looks and wealth.’

She didn’t deny the idea of marrying for looks and wealth itself. As long as it’s not about taking responsibility for someone else’s life, it’s up to the individual to decide what they prioritize in a marriage.

Moreover, whether it’s finding a better partner in the marriage market or seeking a better job, Letticia honestly thinks it’s the same thing. Both are matters that affect one’s livelihood.

However, if you approach someone who values a person’s inner qualities solely based on external conditions like appearance, status, and wealth, it will inevitably backfire.

The thing is: she actually has a good chance of being a great pair with the crown prince and be a really good empress. She certainly would revolutionise a lot!
BUT she simply doesn’t want to 🤡🙅🏻‍♀️ And I love her for that 🤭💘 The way she’s super objective, respects herself and has great reasons for being against the very idea of any of it.
