“Edith…?”
“Ah, Lise. What are you doing there?”
“I was checking the door locks. Why is Edith at this time…?”
“I was also checking the door locks. We must be really nervous.”
She laughed bitterly. She was a bit surprised to see Lise in the place where Edith in her previous life had placed an anti-lock device, but Lise was just locking the door.
‘Does this mean thieves are going crazy?’
She walked up to Lise, locked the back door, grabbed the door handle, and shook it a few times. The door was properly locked.
“It seems okay here. Me and Anna checked the east hallway. Now I’m thinking of going to the west hallway.”
“I came to check the western hallway…”
“Then, now Lise can check the eastern hallway, and I can check the western hallway. It will be more accurate if you check it twice.”
“I guess so.”
She waved at Lise, who was still pale, and walked with Anna towards the west corridor.
‘Nothing will happen. Nothing will happen…’
She said those words over and over like it was a spell in her mind. She refused the Rigelhof family’s last advice to cooperate with the family, and will not install any strange device on the back door. Every day, she would look around the mansion to see if there was anything like the scent of sleep, and if there was no scent of sleep, the mansion wouldn’t be easily taken over. It was the night of the week since she checked the mansion’s door, telling myself that she would be okay alone. As usual, she checked the back door while Anna checked the aisle toward the warehouse.
‘Huh?’
She heard a clanking sound and the back door, which was normally locked tightly, made a clicking sound and felt like it was not locked properly.
‘No way…!’
Suddenly her heart started beating rapidly. After making sure Anna wasn’t out of the warehouse aisle yet, she opened the back door and fell inside the hole where the lock went. She touched something that was square and had a strange texture.
‘No, that can’t be…’
Even though she thought it couldn’t be possible, she pulled out that ‘something’ with her fingernails, put it in her pocket, and closed the back door again.
Crash.
The same sound as usual was heard and the back door was locked securely. Along with the chilling sensation, her back felt damp with cold sweat.
“Miss…?”
“Uh! Huh?”
She thought it was Anna, but one of the maids who was taking the laundry was looking at her strangely.
“What are you doing there?”
“I check the door locks every night. You… It’s late. Are you still working?”
“No. This is just my personal laundry.”
“I see… It’s late, so go in and get some rest.”
“Okay, then…”
The maid bowed to her and disappeared into the darkness.
“Haaa…”
“Miss?”
“Uh! Are you all there?”
Just as she was about to take a breather, she was startled by Anna’s voice calling her again and stuttered without realizing it. She was also nervous that Anna would look at her strangely. But Anna didn’t say anything, and they went back to check the door lock.
‘Why should I be punished for something I didn’t do!’
It was a shame because it was dark. If it had been bright, her complexion would have looked strangely pale to anyone watching. She must have been shiny with cold sweat. But she couldn’t do that. Because the device that Edith put in the back door in the original was now in her pocket.
‘If I hadn’t gotten rid of it, I probably would have been accused of doing it myself again.’
But she wasn’t very happy about the device still being in her pocket. She kept imagining a situation where someone suddenly went through her clothes, found this device, and accused her of being a spy for the Rigelhof family.
‘Isn’t this enough trauma?’
After returning home after checking the door, swallowing dry saliva, she quickly laid down on the bed, making the excuse that she was tired today.
‘Who did it?’
The first person to suspect was a spy for the Rigelhof family who was sure to exist in this family. That person may be the real culprit of several cases whose culprit has not yet been identified.
‘No matter how much I search through Edith’s memories, I don’t know who she is.’
Count Rigelhof did not trust Edith when he let her into the enemy’s den alone, so he did not even tell Edith who the spy he had planted was.
‘I don’t know who she is, but just because she hasn’t been caught so far, it’s clear that she’s as capable as Sophia.’
As soon as the sound of Anna moving around outside the bedroom disappeared, she snuck out the device she had hidden under her pillow and examined it. It was hard to see with the small lamp lit at the head of the bed, but it was a simple device with a spring in the middle.
‘How can I throw this away?’
Even if she kept it, if she got caught later, it would only serve as evidence that she was a spy. However, since it was made of metal, it wouldn’t burn, and going far to throw it away would raise suspicion.
‘I’m going to throw it away somewhere while I’m taking a walk in the garden tomorrow.’
Even after thinking that, all kinds of bad thoughts started to arise one after another. As she was doing that, she suddenly thought of the original author looking down at her and smiling in remorse.
‘How fun would it be to see me shaking and becoming neurotic?’
The fever suddenly rose.
‘What did I do wrong? What sin did I commit in my past life to make you do this to me?’
The more she thought about it, the more her anger boiled over. There was a time when she thought this possession was luck, but now she just felt like she was unlucky enough to be caught by a crazy god. The imagination of a child catching an ant in a labyrinth and having fun looking down on it came to her.
‘Fuck you! You think I’ll be obedient?’
Rather than shaking with anxiety, she decided to face it more proactively.
‘If they have installed this device, there is a high probability that they have hidden the scent of sleep. You must find the scent of sleep.’
She decided to search through the mansion starting the next day. She would never let Shane raid this mansion.

“Hello, Renan.”
“Hello, lady.”
Even while the territory war was taking place, the work of the employees of the Duke’s house continued as usual. In other words, she was also going to Renan’s office as usual.
“Did you not sleep well last night?”
“Yes? Why, why?”
“It looks like your complexion is not very good.”
The complexion issue had already been pointed out to Anna in the morning. She could barely sleep because she was gritting her teeth all night thinking about how to annoy the original author. What’s even more unfair is that she couldn’t sleep and thought about it, but couldn’t come up with a sharp number.
‘I have no choice but to do my best for the task at hand.’
It’s a textbook conclusion, but it was the only thing she could do now.
“You can take care of the documents of Ryzen Territory today as well. You worked so hard that there aren’t many documents left.”
“I know, right? I am so excited to think that this is a territory that I will grow together with Killian in the future…”
She grinned awkwardly and received the documents for the Ryzen Territory from Renan.
“How do you want to grow Ryzen?”
“From a macro or micro perspective?”
“First, I want to hear from a macro perspective.”
As she placed the documents on the desk, she thought of Ryzen in her imagination.
“It’s an issue I need to discuss with Killian, but if you ask my opinion, I want to grow it into a city of commerce and recreation.”
“A commercial city? But Ryzen is a bit of an isolated terrain.”
“If you just look at the map, yes. However, if there is no Mount Piliac, it can be connected to the port city of Driburn across from it.”
“How are you going to get rid of Mount Philiac?”
She opened the map of Ryzen Territory that was stuck on one side of her desk. Mount Piliak was not very high, and it was a grateful mountain that provided various forest products to the people of Ryzen. However, because of this mountain, Ryzen was treated as an isolated rural area, disconnected from the small and medium-sized cities beyond the mountain.
“There is no need to demolish the whole mountain. Mount Philiac is clearly a valuable resource for the people of Ryzen.”
“Sure.”
“Why not just build a road?”
“The road?”
It may be difficult to dig a tunnel in this era, but it would be worth a try to find the flattest and shortest route, build a mountain path, and clear out the surrounding vegetation. Maybe there were mountain paths that people still walk on.
“If only roads connecting small and medium-sized cities beyond Mount Piliac are well-built and auxiliary facilities for merchants to use are well-equipped, Ryzen will change completely.”
“Hmm. I guess so.”
“Besides, as long as the amenities are well-equipped, don’t you think it would be nice to build a villa for nobles near Mount Piliac? It will be a city where you can enjoy nature while providing convenience.”
After hearing her explanation, Renan seemed a little surprised and nodded his head.
“I think Ryzen will see a revival in just 10 years.”
“That’s why I’m hoping that Killian returns safely.”
“Umm… That said…”
Renan asked cautiously, showing a bit of concern even with his expressionless face.
“The Count Rigelhof may be ruined. Are you okay?”
It was a question that everyone wanted to ask her, but couldn’t ask directly. She took a deep breath and answered.
“I’m fine.”
“But…”
“The fact that he left me here to provoke the Ludwig family means that the connection between me and my parents has been severed. I don’t want to sacrifice my life to be loyal to a family that practically asked me to die.”
However, in this world, family honor was considered more important than life. Perhaps the way she harshly cut ties with her parents may seem vulgar in the eyes of nobles who live and die for honor.

What if someone find that device in garden and put it back ??? 🫠
My thoughts exactly! Honestly she should have explained the situation to Anna and she would have helped her… but alas trauma makes you react in bad ways
I agree trauma/ anxiety does make you react in different ways but why did she go through so much effort to get the background characters on her side just to not trust Anna and instead hide the device from her??? I just don’t want to see her efforts of not being associated as the enemy’s daughter go in vain😔😖
All this. My first thought was “immediately give it to the duchess” and then, realizing that the duchess was also slightly affected to refuse the extra knights, my second thought was “at least show it to Anna!”
Lol
What does your “lol” meannnnn RJR???
I’m scared for Edith huhuhu. Hoping that everything will be alright but honestly I kinda wanna see a drama moment where Killian will come back and he will almost lose Edith again scenario because of Lizard but this time Lizard will be caught. Hehehe
My thoughts are running wild already. Thank you for the updates RJR!!! Can’t wait for more!
oh no, now she’s stuck with that device and someone will try to drag her down w/it ; A ;
What’s this? She’s being so complacent with this situation! 😟I’m a bit angry now. She’s gone through enough framing and bad situation to be careful of even a cockroach in that house and the fact that she isn’t even suspicious of lise frustrates me. She should have said something to the duchess or renan if not anything. If she had said everything that she saw, they’ll tighten defences! She’s being so stupid
Even if she talks, who is going to listen to her?
Exactly… Being honest with the situation might raise more suspicions…
right?? also like og author has so much influence on the duchess as evident from how she refused imperial knights and could not give a reason why.
but i do think she shuld drop some hints to renan cuz that maid who saw her might give some testimony against her
No one has to believe her. Even if their suspicious, they will at least want to tighten security while keeping an eye on edith herself. That way, if someone does let the enemies in, they can be sure it isn’t edith all along and suspicions will automatically shift to the only other person who’s been going to the doors even if another method was used to break in
oh that sounds smart and safe
I’m so excited for updates in the chapter. But Edith’s trauma affects her way of thinking. Tbh, she has the strongest mind among all the Manhwa fls I have read. 🙁
I agree she should’ve told atleast anna or renan after finding the device because now she does look suspicious. If something bad happens that maid who saw her acting strange will be able testify to her crime 😫🥲 She could also get caught or spotted throwing a suspicious device in the garden (should’ve just waited til anna show up to show her what she found). She also should’ve spoken up about tightening defenses or encourage the duchess to take the offer the princess made if she knew what her brother was going to do.
Why are you keep the device? Just destoy it alraedy!!!
Renan mention!!! That’s all I need!!!!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about holiday. Regards
The author doesn’t know his character.
Edith knows renan is already suspicious of Lise, why doesn’t she talk to him ? Why does she hide from Anna ?
I feel like the story is once again trying to put her as a damsel in distress while also trying to sell a badass heroin and it doesn’t work.
It’s disappointing
I see here that the author of this novel has chosen this moment to hand The Idiot Ball (TV Tropes) to our dear Heroine Edith. She should have immediately turned that in to someone on her side and alerted the duchess. An increase in security and investigation of the grounds should have been the next step. Still, I can see some justification for Edith keeping it to herself and trying to solve the issue on her own. She can trust very few people and she already deduced that the “author” who is her adversary used their powers in manipulating the duchess. This will end up pushing Edith towards the “death ending”. But since she is, in the lore of this story, now a Female Lead and Protagonist, Romance Story Probability (rules) will shift in her in her favor.
