I Became The Servant Who Received The Crown Prince’s Obsession

BSWRCPO

Episode 2

Before living an absurd life in the BL world, she was a fairly competent newcomer in society who was praised for her decent work performance.

She received compliments and positive evaluations despite not having any outstanding abilities. I may be boasting, but I was good with words.

Some even said I had a silver tongue.

Playing the middle ground between praise and realistic evaluations with superiors proved to be quite effective. Even though she didn’t have striking beauty, she could earn extra points with a bright smile.

Thanks to this, she never had to stay late at work, and could slip away quietly even when others were working overtime.

For her, the vitality of harsh office life came from reading serialized novels. While reading on her commute, she would discreetly check if anyone was watching her screen and cover it with her hair when she found something satisfying.

But enjoyable and fresh novels are only good for reading, who said anyone would want to live there?

Suddenly finding herself as a sixteen-year-old beta girl in the BL world, Edith realized that she couldn’t find a way back and had to accept the reality of living there. Her goal became to adapt to the new world, similar to the one she originally lived in.

Let’s just get through the middle. Don’t stand out. Just live roughly.

No matter how many times I think about it, it’s truly a precious maxim.

Thanks to her commendable values, during her four years in this place, no one noticed that she came from a different world.

In reality, Edith didn’t receive much attention from her family.

Her family held a noble title, but they were not wealthy. Her father squandered half of the family fortune on useless business ventures, and then, unable to recover from the mental shock, he squandered the remaining half on alcohol and gambling.

When she was just getting used to the unfamiliar world, her father gambled away the family’s fortune, and her mother became weak, so they had to leave for their hometown with Edith’s younger sibling.

As she was learning from an incompetent private tutor and exploring new knowledge at the academy, the family’s financial situation became so dire that she had to start earning money in the end.

Up to this point, it’s the same as the original story, Edith being forced into managing things.

Edith didn’t mind having to earn her own living.

It’s sad that life is as chaotic as in the books, but she was lucky to secure a position at the academy through her application.

But the problem started from there.

She had agreed to work in the imperial government’s administrative office, but… why, how, for what reason, did she have to commute to Prince Clyde’s palace?

“This is… feels like my life is getting messed up?”

As she entered the palace gates, she let out a deep sigh, feeling as if she might suffocate from the pressure.

“Ugh, if I’m supposed to be cooler than real life after this possession, what’s with this pathetic daydreaming all by myself?”

The original Edith was a messenger who shuttled messages between the main government and the main residence.

But she didn’t want to meet Clyde from the beginning, unlike the original story.

It was obvious that it wouldn’t end well if they got involved with each other.

Let them handle their love games themselves. Instead of shuttling between the two main characters and getting nothing but trouble without even getting paid for it, she decided to live her own life as a wage earner, minding her own business.

But Edith’s first attempt was brutally thwarted.

It was all due to an absurd mistake made by the personnel manager.

Was this the power of the original? She was supposed to be assigned as a new administrative officer in the Ministry of Personnel, but instead, she ended up becoming a secretary in the prince’s palace, of all places.

She couldn’t just blame the personnel manager outright. They thought that Edith, coming from a noble family, would work as a regular secretary, not as an administrative officer, because that’s how high-ranking families usually build ties with the royal family.

“We can’t go around town making a fuss about not having money at home…”

Muttering complaints that sounded almost like resignation, she made her way to where Clyde was.

The prince’s palace was more magnificent than she had imagined from reading about it. I don’t know if it was because of her lack of imagination or the author’s lack of expression.

Standing in the dimly lit grand hall, she opened her mouth like a rookie, then quickly composed herself as a passing courtier shot her a glance.

Young Edith had occasionally visited the palace before the family went bankrupt, so she couldn’t afford to look out of place.

Edith tried to act inconspicuous as she made her way to the personnel department and lodged her complaint.

“I clearly wrote in my application that my first choice is the Ministry of Personnel.”

The personnel manager pinpointed the mistake in her application that had caused the mix-up.

“But the department assignments are already finalized, it might be difficult to change now…”

“You have to change it, of course! If one person’s fate can be altered by a mistake, then it should be fixed, right?”

“Well, still…”

“If you don’t change it, I’ll request a meeting with the Minister of Personnel. Do you happen to know that the minister and my father are quite close?”

Although it was an empty boast, the personnel manager, unaware of the ties between high-ranking nobles, reluctantly acquiesced.

“I’ll do my best.”

“As quickly as possible, please.”

“Yes, as soon as possible.”

Leaving the personnel department with a firm resolve, she expected to endure just a few days at the prince’s palace.

Edith did her best to break free from her role in the original story.

It wasn’t just the difficult role of a messenger that was the problem. Given that Clyde was destined to become a notorious tyrant, there were bound to be numerous violent incidents around him. It was best to stay as far away as possible.

For a while at the prince’s palace, she was able to enjoy a quiet and uneventful working environment as she checked the palace supplies. It was a physically demanding job, but it didn’t show at all.

But getting away from Clyde’s sight wasn’t easy.

Damn plot buff. How am I supposed to get away from this?

It was only her third day on the job, checking the prince’s office supplies when Clyde appeared. She quickly finished up and disappeared, shaking with nerves since the early morning.

She busily checked to ensure that the items on the inventory list matched the ones in the office, making sure nothing was missing. She also had to note down any worn-out items for replacement or repair.

As a graduate of the Empire’s top academy, Edith’s current task might have been insignificant, but since she was planning to move to a different department in a few days, she didn’t pay much attention to the temporary work.

Thanks to the fact that there were no significant people around to steal from the stern prince’s space, the work progressed smoothly. Still, she meticulously checked every single item, from large equipment to even a small paper knife, all of which were expensive goods.

Suddenly, she noticed a part of the molding around the entrance door where the paint had peeled off.

She made a note in the ledger and took another look.

“Hmm, the door gap is a bit…”

Proud of herself for taking on the task with such dedication, she glanced around the other side of the door.

Then, the door suddenly opened.

The massive, luxurious mahogany door opened without making a sound.

Thunk—.

With a dull, splashing sound, intense pain flared up in her hip like a flame.

The open door struck her, and the handle hit her hip squarely.

“Ow!”

Her terrified scream lasted only a moment.

The force of the opening door pushed her body forward, right into the wall she had been observing.

Thunk—.

Helplessly flying like a scarecrow, she hit the wall.

With her shoulder awkwardly wedged between the door and the wall, she felt a pang of self-consciousness about her flabby shoulders providing a cushioning effect, despite praising herself internally for her dazzling reflexes.

Although her hip was quite sore from the impact, the meeting with the wall didn’t lead to any serious accident.

If she were the main character, a scene of her being vulnerably injured in an unexpected accident would have been depicted. But in reality, it was just a secretary wedged between the door and the wall, squirming.

The incident unfolded in a fraction of a second.

Soon after, a radiant figure appeared beyond the door.

He was a man with stunning looks that seemed almost unreal.

His head was much higher than expected, causing Edith’s gaze to rise even higher.

She could meet his surprised expression as she raised her eyes to meet his, which were raised to about three hundred.

Clyde…

She could recognize him at a glance. He had a remarkable face that seemed to come with the title of the protagonist.

Behind his golden hair, which shone like the color of a clear night, the sunlit window served as a background. His slightly wavy hair gleamed as if it had been photo-edited with a highlight effect.

His golden eyes, a key feature of his widely admired appearance in society, truly sparkled.

With sharp features and an intense gaze, it was difficult to dismiss the brightness in his eyes as just a reflection of the iris, creating a unique atmosphere.

There were many points of interest in the main character, but unfortunately, Edith was not in a good state.

Her hip, struck by the door handle, was unbearably painful.

Instinctively, her body twisted.

Edith writhed in pain, focusing on the fleshy area right next to her hip. If there had been no one around, she would have surely checked how badly she had bruised her butt.

Even as Clyde closed the door and approached, she continued to groan and whimper in pain, enduring the discomfort.

Seeing Edith not hiding her pain, he was taken aback.

“Oh… Are you hurt badly?” he asked, reaching out to her hip, which was causing a commotion.

It was a universal psychological response to reach out to someone in great pain. It was a meaningless and subconscious action.

Clyde’s large hand approached Edith’s aching hip.
