She felt it even when she saw the original, but this man was a very cold and arrogant person. If a man of this level were good and kind, he would not be in that position for long.
“Thank you for saying that. I’m dying because I’m Your Highness’ fiancée.”
“You speak as if you know who the culprit is.”
“I know.”
She looked straight at him and said clearly.
“Your Majesty the Emperor.”
“Why would His Majesty kill the princess?”
“I am not lying. His Majesty is planning to kill me onoury wedding day. He’s trying to kill me and lay the blame for the murder on His Highness.”
When the word ‘murder’ came out, the Grand Duke, who had shown a light attitude as if he had heard a joke, immediately hardened his complexion. She could see a slight crease between his well-shaped brows.
“How did the princess find out about this?”
This was the most important point. So she answered reluctantly and honestly.
“I saw the future with my holy power.”
“…”
There was silence for a moment in the dark chapel. Even though all the windows were closed, she felt a cool breeze pass between them. The Grand Duke blinked a few times as if he couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
‘What the hell is this crazy sound?’
“I’m sorry, but please say it one more time. Was there a problem with my hearing… What you just said sounded completely strange.”
Asked to repeat it one more time, he asked politely enough to be hateful.
“You didn’t hear me wrong. I saw holy power. You know I’m born with holy powers, right? The power I have is the ability to see what will happen in the future.”
The Grand Duke retorted her words with a look full of suspicion.
“I heard that you lost your holy powers when you were young.”
“Yeah, I thought so. But it wasn’t like that.”
She calmly told the story she had prepared. She hadn’t used Precognizance since she was 10, so she thought she had lost my ability. However, right after the engagement, her foresight suddenly returned. She didn’t believe it at first, but after checking it a few times, she was sure. It really was a revival of power. It was good until then, but one day she saw a new vision. The future of being murdered by an assassin sent by the Emperor on the morning of the wedding day.
It’s something she had been thinking about for the past few days. She couldn’t tell this man that she was not really Eve and that she’s possessed in a book. Fortunately, there was a way to explain the story without telling him. Because Eve actually had the power of foresight.
However, as she continued to explain, the Grand Duke’s expression became more and more absurd. When the story was over, a look of bewilderment filled his handsome face.
The Grand Duke muttered calmly without hesitation.
“A little while ago, I thought that the princess was playing with me under His Majesty’s orders, but… It’s so absurd that it’s hard to even consider it a conspiracy.”
“I’m not trying to trick you.”
The Grand Duke asked again with an expression of incomprehension.
“So, according to the vision, the princess was killed on her wedding day, but in fact, that was His Majesty’s plan to put the blame on me?”
“Yes. Apparently it was. From what I saw, the assassination was definitely successful.”
The Grand Duke did not take his eyes off her face. It was an absurd look, like looking at a crazy person. Well, when one heard something like that all of a sudden, one had reason to doubt it. She asked anxiously.
“Do you not understand?”
“I already knew that my fiancée was violent and unruly, but that she even has a mental illness is hard to understand.”
“I am not crazy. This is not a delusion.”
Of course, it was natural to not believe the explanation alone. But it was fine. Because she had evidence to prove her precognitive ability.
“Trust me. You’ll know in 5 days. There will be a solar eclipse in the morning in five days.”
Five days from now, that was, 35 days before Eve’s wedding, an unexpected solar eclipse would occur. Originally, it was customary to observe the sky at the Great Hall or Academy and predict solar and lunar eclipses using astrology. But the eclipse was something no one expected. In the original work, everyone was confused, saying that the orbit of the astronomy suddenly changed.
‘Actually, it happened because the heroine, Sorel, fell out of the battlefield and woke up the sealed divine beast.’
Anyway, the inside story was not revealed until the end of the story. So maybe she could use some.
“Did you see that as well?”
“Yes it is.”
The Grand Duke still had an expression of disbelief.
“You’re not saying that finding the location of the holy relic was thanks to your foreknowledge.”
“That’s right. I saw a scene of finding a holy relic in the future.”
She lied naturally.
“His Majesty the Emperor is trying to kill me to trap His Highness the Grand Duke. This is not a lie.”
However, the Grand Duke did not believe her in the slightest. He asked again, examining her face carefully.
“Did you overhear His Majesty’s secret conversation?”
Eve accidentally overhears the Emperor’s plan. Eve, horrified by it, told him lies, wanting to get the Grand Duke’s help. In fact, it was thanks to her own abilities that she regained her powers of foresight and learned of the Emperor’s plans. Considering Eve’s personality, it was quite possible.
“No.”
She broke his guess with a calm tone.
“You may be wondering if I overheard this, but that is impossible. I haven’t seen His Majesty the Emperor very often except for recent official occasions. I never had a chance to eavesdrop on His Majesty’s secret conversations.”
The emperor was always busy with work to manage state affairs, and the fortress was out of the palace because it was out on the battlefield. Even if he was in the imperial palace, he would have been busy with government affairs, so he wouldn’t have been able to meet his stupid daughter who had accidents often. There was no way the Emperor would talk about such an important plot anywhere. There was no way he would say such a thing, especially in a place where Eve could hear it.
“If I had been able to lie that I had overheard His Majesty’s plan rather than having a vision, I would have said that from the beginning.”
She meant to say that at first. That she overheard the Emperor’s plan, but she soon realized that such lies were meaningless. No matter how hard she tried, there was no way Eve in the original work could find out the Emperor’s plans in advance. And in the imperial palace, there were spies of the Grand Duke’s family. So if she were to say, “I secretly overheard the Emperor talking to someone about this and that on that date,” the Grand Duke would call his spies to find out if what she was saying was true. Even if they wouldn’t know what the conversation went on, they could find out if the person who really talked to the Emperor was there at that time, or if she was nearby. In other words, he could easily figure out if what she said was a lie.
“I never had a chance to hear about these plans. So if I lie… Your Highness must have noticed right away. So I am telling you the truth.”
“…”
Complex emotions lingered in the Grand Duke’s dark purple eyes. She understood to some extent, but it seems that he still had doubts.
He asked again.
“If that’s true, why didn’t you let people know that the holy power had returned?”
“Wouldn’t it be nice if people didn’t know what I was capable of? Because no one will be wary of me if they don’t know my abilities.”
“Do you think it is okay to talk to me?”
She looked up at his terribly handsome face and said.
“If I don’t prove that I’m useful, His Highness won’t help me.”
One truth she realized while living a rough life was that no one would help me if Ishe couldn’t prove her usefulness.
“If I didn’t tell you about my precognitive ability and only told you about the assassination plan on my wedding day, you would rather actively watch me die, rather than help me. Isn’t it?”
If she hadn’t confided in him about his precognitive powers, the Grand Duke would neither help nor protect her. At first, she only confided in the plans for the wedding day and thought about asking for help. What if she hid her precognitive powers and asked for help simply because he had learned of the Emperor’s plans? He wouldn’t have anything to say if she asked him where he heard it in detail, but she wondered if he’d investigate it just in case if he just evaded that it was true. If he investigated closely, he would spot any suspicious movements and he would know what she was saying was true. Then, wouldn’t it be possible to avoid the ending of being murdered on the wedding day?
She thought it was that simple. But even so, she realized it was useless, because the Grand Duke did not need to help her if he simply wanted to avoid being framed for murder. Rather, it would be more effective to investigate the Emperor’s plan in advance and secure evidence, then after she was murdered, bring the evidence in to reveal the injustice. By doing so, the Emperor’s vicious plan to frame the Grand Duke by killing his own daughter could be exposed to the whole world. And in the meantime, he could get rid of the troublesome fiancée naturally.
Even the Grand Duke would win the sympathy of the people, saying that he lost his fiancée and was almost framed for her murder.
After she finished explaining, she looked up at him with her arms crossed and asked again.
“If you had only talked about the wedding without revealing your foresight, it would have happened, right?
