Episode 50
When Yurian said that, Yvonne grabbed his hand. However, Marquis deliberately didn’t stop him. From his perspective, Yurian didn’t seem to understand what kind of person Yvonne was.
“I’ll just knock them out.”
With that, Yvonne released his hand.
Despite having taken the magic suppressant, Yurian’s physical abilities were far from ordinary. As soon as he became visible, he swiftly struck the back of a guard’s neck.
“Ugh…!”
“What’s this? Ah!”
Yurian knocked out the two guards in an instant and then looked around, somewhat regretfully. He felt a moment of panic when he couldn’t see Yvonne.
Then he remembered the invisibility spell and relaxed as he saw her and the others again.
“Now we just need to activate the gate.”
“The magic stone….”
“It’s here.”
Yurian took the magic stone from the guard’s belt and inserted it into the top of the gate. Instantly, the gate was surrounded by a brilliant array of colors.
“Yurian, drink the antidote now.”
Yurian found it strange. She had given him the antidote earlier, worried he might faint.
Does that mean it’s safe once they pass through the gate?
But he didn’t feel light-headed at all.
If he refused her suggestion now, it might ruin the trust they had built.
He didn’t want to lose the trust he had with her, especially after making a vow of the heart. Despite his doubts, he wanted to believe in her. He took the vial from his pocket.
“Yurian.”
“Yes.”
“Thank you.”
“…Yes.”
Her words were strange, but Yurian thought she wasn’t a naive person.
If he regained his powers and was taken to another place by her…
That would be a happy thing too.
He hoped that she would take him somewhere and keep him waiting, as he opened the vial and drank the liquid.
“Ugh….”
“Such a fuss.”
Marquis Rohan mocked him, noticing the odd tension between Yurian and Yvonne.
Surprisingly, Yurian didn’t pass out immediately.
“When will this take effect?”
“I don’t know.”
“One minute.”
Then Marquis Rohan pushed Yurian into the gate.
“What’s this…!”
As Yurian was pushed through the gate, Marquis Rohan quickly removed the magic stone.
“He should have made it through, right?”
“Of course.”
They locked the gate and headed towards the North Gate.
“We’re leaving through the gate, right?”
“Yes.”
As planned, Yurian was sent to his duchy, and Yvonne and Marquis intended to leave through the gate. They had already prepared a carriage to escape through the North Gate.
“Let’s go.”
“Yes.”
Erkin cast the invisibility spell again. They entered the administrative building near the North Gate where the scribes worked.
Once inside, they moved to Marquis Rohan’s office.
“Do you think Yurian arrived safely?”
“Yes. Look at this.”
He pointed to a blinking device on his desk.
“When the assistant on the other side receives the Duke, they’ll send a signal.”
Marquis picked up the device, then set it back down.
“Yvonne, please change your clothes.”
“Okay.”
She took out a maid’s uniform from her bag.
“I’ll wait outside.”
“No need. If you run into someone outside, it could be problematic. One guard is enough.”
Yvonne said this, but Marquis felt that leaving would gain her trust. However, he remembered the advice he had received about relationships: if you distance yourself when she approaches, it could push her further away.
“Is this because we’re close enough now?”
He mustered the courage to ask, and Yvonne replied without hesitation.
“Yes. We agreed to leave together.”
“Oh….”
Marquis felt a surge of emotion, thinking they had grown closer.
“I’m happy.”
“Okay.”
Yvonne gestured for him to turn around. He felt embarrassed, seeing her shadow cast by the moonlight outside the window.
Once Marquis turned his back, Yvonne quickly undressed. She had dressed simply to deceive Yurian.
She was a bit concerned about Erkin, who was outside, but not about Marquis. She knew he had spent many nights with other women.
She didn’t think he would lose control just because he claimed to love her. Someone who drank water daily wouldn’t lose self-control just because they were momentarily thirsty.
In that sense, Yurian had always been the most dangerous.
But that was over now.
Yvonne thought this as she removed her negligee and picked up the maid’s uniform. The sound of fabric rustling was audible, and Marquis Rohan clenched his fists and closed his eyes, feeling the tension.
This was a crucial moment. They needed to move quickly to get her to Apentina. If he let his desires lead him to make a mistake, he might never win Yvonne’s heart.
That was what he feared the most.
He felt an almost unbearable frustration at not being able to look at her due to his side effects, but now he had an opportunity.
Even if they lived as a formal couple, she would gradually reconsider their relationship.
He was confident. Marquis Rohan was a patient man. Although his patience often vanished when he saw Yvonne, causing him to blurt out nonsense and confess his love, he was determined not to cross the line.
“Kes. I think you need to tie the back.”
“Oh…yes.”
He swallowed dryly, his steps feeling shaky as he approached her. His palms were sweaty, and his legs trembled as he walked towards Yvonne, who was not fully dressed, her hair slightly disheveled.
She looked devastatingly beautiful, and that was a problem.
“Kes.”
“…Yes.”
“You look like you’re about to devour me.”
“Absolutely not. I would never do anything so shameless.”
“Alright. I trust you.”
When Yvonne smiled and said that, his heart pounded so loudly he feared she might hear it. It was embarrassing to have his thoughts exposed, but even more so to have his feelings revealed.
“I would never do something beastly.”
“I understand.”
He moved behind her. She swept her hair aside, and the sweet scent enveloped him. Marquis felt an overwhelming urge to sink his teeth into her neck and meld their bodies together, but he restrained himself.
Ironically, his many past encounters helped him control his impulses.
“Yvonne, your neck is really beautiful.”
“I know.”
Yvonne’s nonchalant response made Marquis relax a bit and smile. He began fastening the hooks from her waist up.
Yvonne, accustomed to maids dressing her, felt indifferent. However, Marquis struggled to breathe each time his hands touched her back, even with the negligee in place.
He felt a strange satisfaction from touching her back so intimately.
Seeing Yvonne’s close bond with Yurian must have been due to her pity for him.
Yurian likely never touched her back as he did now.
“Yvonne, I will live a good life.”
“Okay.”
Her indifferent reply delighted Marquis, even though they had not yet escaped.
As he finished fastening the hooks, Yvonne let her hair fall back. The scent from her long hair almost made him lose control, but he managed to compose himself.
“Let’s go now.”
“Alright.”
He handed her a necklace. When she put it on, her hair turned a common brown color.
Yvonne, now with brown hair, touched her new hair curiously and looked at Marquis.
“I think I fell for Your Highness again.”
“Let’s hurry.”
“…Yes.”
Marquis knew she had heard his confession despite pretending not to, as her ears had turned red.
“Your Highness.”
“Yes.”
“Yvonne.”
“Yes.”
“I will treat Yvonne very well.”
“Okay.”
His constant reassurances made her guilt over Yurian fade, leaving her with a strange feeling.
“Let’s go.”
Erkin said, looking at Yvonne in her maid’s disguise.
“A headband will help blur your features.”
Following his advice, Yvonne put on a headband and said,
“Let’s really go now.”
“Yes.”
Marquis, smiling happily, held her hand. When she didn’t pull away, he became bolder and entwined his pinky finger with hers.
